I've watched one of these now when we've lost and loved it (apart from the score line)! People can claim there's no atmosphere with all seated grounds, but in my opinion they're simply wrong. I've been inside the old, terraced Oakwell when there's been similar attendances (and a lot smaller, too!) to Monday and I can't recall a better atmosphere, or one even close.
Suppose the home fans could access it by going around the back of the East Stand then there wouldn’t be an issue of segregation on entering/ exiting the stand
Whatever league we're in next season we need to get home fans in the north stand, been done before segregated makes such a difference to the whole atmosphere
is that right? there are many grounds who have fans behind either goal, and many who have segregated stands behind the goal. not sure what makes Oakwell any different. then again this is SYP we're dealing with.
It's actually the safety advisory group or whatever it's called at barnsley council. Head of the group and key decision maker is scared to death of another Hillsborough
Could there really be ‘another Hillsbrough’ though? It’s highly unlikely a similar massive surge would occur and even if it did there are no fences to keep fans penned in meaning they could easily spill over onto the pitch. I really see no reason why home fans could not share the North stand with appropriate segregation and safety stewards and Police.
I’d say at this moment in time it’s a money issue , amount of stewards needed to segregate v how many fans we have which are easily accommodated in the existing stands . I’d say they’ll easily segregate the stand if a full house guaranteed almost every week ie the prem .
No. That side of the West will remain out of use in its current guise. Beyond that, I know very little else I’m afraid.
