I only started watching us then and always remember him talking to look north after promotion that was legendary. He was part of bassets team and was caretaker manager a couple of times. Really sad day for the club hope we can bounce back Saturday and turn it round for him.
So sorry for your loss. I'm too young to remember him as a player, but do remember him as a coach, and a caretaker manager. May he rest in peace.
I'm really sorry to hear that. I feel sad that the world and the club have lost a legend but in all honesty thats small fry right now, what matters is you've lost your dad and I can't even imagine how that feels. If there's anything I or anyone else on here can do for you in the coming days weeks months or years then don't hesitate to ask
Sincere and heartfelt condolences to you and your family. He was a true great who will never be forgotten, ever. A legend. Well played Big Winnie, RIP.
RIP Eric and sincerest condolences to family and friends . Eric will rightly live forever in our hearts and the Barnsley FC hall of fame long after we’re all gone . XX
Very sad news. Condolences to you and the family. Sad loss to Barnsley and to football, one of Barnsley FC's true 'greats'.
Winnie,Winnie Winnie was the chant we’d won a corner, seems like yesterday stood in the Ponte end singing His name.Seems like yesterday He was pushed up front and scored two goals to grab a point against Crewe ( I think) Just a couple of many manyMemory’s of a Club Legend that will stay with me forever Rip Winnie
So sorry to hear this awful news.Eric played in my first ever Barnsley and he stood out as a colossus as a man and a player. I'll never forget his hattrick against Watford coming back from 2 nil against the league leaders. He always had time for a chat and he genuinely was one of us. A few of us had a little leaving do in the Mount when he was moving abroad to St.Kitts.Phil and Tracey presented him with a cake with the words "From the pits to St Kitts". Genuinely shocked tonight but you've left plenty of Barnsley fans with a lifetime of memories. Condolences to all the family.RIP Eric my first legend.
Truly awful news. All my thoughts with you though I know no words can help. Your dad was a legend and a hero. He was the best of us.
RIP Eric and condolences to your family. It must have been so hard for him and you all having to cope with his illness particularly with all the COVID restrictions. As others have said I never saw him as a player but listening to how highly he was regarded as a coach and a man by some of my favourite reds players and the way he worked with Danny to secure our first ever foray into the top league absolutely confers legend status. Take care of yourself.
So so sorry for your loss. Eric. A proper Reds legend. Like many of my age he was one of my boyhood heroes. Your spirit lives on Big Man.
I bracket him alongside Rimmo, as epitomising their love and loyalty for their home town club. Eric Winstanley, you truly deserve legend status.
