Why? Apart from Mowatt who is out of contract (not counting Dike as he is a loan player), why would we need or want to get rid? We signed them in the Championship, we're staying in the Championship, other than wanting to torture yourself and spiral down into a depressive state, why would we be getting rid of 5 of our main players and the manager just because we didn't go to a league no-one at any point this season really expected us to?
Mowatt has had us for a mug. Good servant but we've gave him far too long to sign a contract. Dike isn't ours and with 1 goal in 7 I think clubs have found a way to deal with him.
I don’t think every one of them will go. But I do think at least a couple, on top of the inevitable departure of Mowatt and Dike, will go. And I think that will happen as elements of our squad (and the manager) have won a lot of fans and haven’t stayed under the radar. There are many, many clubs, several even who finished below us in the table, who have more money than us (or at least are prepared to cheat and spend more than they have) and will take advantage of that. To repeat and clarify, I’m not complaining. We know how things have to be. We will not be able to turn down decent offers. I understand the business model and fully respect it. The books need to be balanced. The only way they stay is if nobody makes a reasonable bid. It might well also be we actively choose to cash in on a couple of first teamers, as well as trim some of the less utilised players from the squad, to raise funds to bring a few more in of Val’s choosing. It might not be Styles and Helik, but there will very likely be some contracted first team players who are sold in my view.
There will be some change over but the posting of loads of key players for us and our manager with a goodbye message is just negative and inflammatory. No summing up of the season, no well done to the team and Val with a wondering in there about who we might see leave, just a list of key names and 'bye'.
I'm hoping that after these last two games, he will be perceived as a long-ball manager with no Plan B so will be less appealing!
No way we will lose all of those. You’re just fired up from the defeat today and that’s totally understandable. Mowatt and Dike won’t be here but we won’t sell all those you’ve listed. Maybe Styles or one of the centre backs. And anyway, our replacement transfers are usually pretty decent. I can’t see Val leaving yet either. I think he’ll want another crack at it with us. Hopefully the owners have had this little taster and now back us quite heavily.
I’m personally less convinced than ever that he’ll be our manager at the start of next season. His stock his high, we will have a good clause in for him and the owners will feel confident they can find another coach. I also really do think our style has to change. It’s just my opinion, but bottom line is I just don’t really enjoy watching it. I also have a sneaky feeling that with fans back next season, the results on the pitch might not pan out the same. It’s been a freak season and we’ve benefited from a unique set of circumstances. We’ll see..
We all said the board would cash in in January and they didn’t. Keep the faith. If they do go, we have a decent recruitment record.
So if Crystal Palace come in for Val, with a big pay check. He’s going to say, no thanks, I’m going to try again with Barnsley? I love your optimism and hope you’re right, but I can’t see it.
What’s the point in posting such a negative post about pure speculation regarding the future of our team and the head coach when you have no evidence? Specially just after a playoff semifinal defeat? I’ve got nothing but pride and thoroughly enjoyed the ride. Yeah I’m disappointed but my focus at this moment is not whether we will have a fire sale or not. One thing I know for sure is that most of the players you’ve mentioned, we will get top dollar for and are definitely replaceable and I know for sure that I trust recruitment and the board to make the correct decisions with the clubs best interests at heart. Whether that be now or in the future We are definitely are more attractive proposition for a player to come and home his skills than we were last season due to our excellent season I resigned a long time ago to the fact that players move on but there’s always someone better in the wings waiting. If they want to move on then they’re not right for our club. Simple as
To be honest, Brittain’s lack of quality has shown up over these two legs. Poor finishing, poor deliveries into the box, plus diving in to block Grimes. It might sound harsh because he has had a great season, but he really looked out of his depth over the two games. Styles has been poor for a while now. Williams showed what’s possible when you have pace in the wide areas. I would start by replacing both wing backs. Styles might come again in midfield. Mowatt also poor over both games as was Dike. So basically, all the players that might be leaving were the ones who under performed on the big stage. That would surely be a good thing as they are the ones that need replacing.
Neither can I…. I don’t honestly think they’ll come in for him. Yes his stock might be high, but they’ll want a household name taking the reins.
That’s our shot gone. No matter what the owners might say we can’t pay wages these players will want so they will move on.
I've no problem with players seeing out their contract. His performances haven't dipped, we'd have been less likely to reach the play offs had he left in January.
