Twice. And the occasion got to us. Twice. Maybe that's the downside of a team of youngsters with limited experience of big games. I'm absolutely gutted, not so much because we lost but because I feel like those 2 games didn't reflect our team, our character or our season. We went out not with a bang, but a whimper. But I don't want to dwell on it, when you take the season as a whole this is one negative in a sea of positives and we should all be massively proud and optimistic for the future. You reds.
Agreed, didn't think much of Swansea at all, if they go up they'll get some right tonkings, the refs won't be helping them like he did today.
Oooh be careful, you're not allowed to use words like 'whimper' about tonight's display - the new board policeman RedStriker will be along with some asterisks to give you a telling off.
Seem to have a QPR like hold on us do Swansea and we seem to freeze against them. But we have to see this season as a massive achievement and joyous to watch on the whole. Love those boys!
Yes, can't explain it but we could easily have won all 4 games against them this season, and ended up only managing a draw and 1 goal.
Clearly I’m not the new board policeman. That is reserved for redstriker (which really pains me) but any suggestion that we went with a whimper can f. Off and keep going. We lost to a well organised team who have a player on more than our entire eleven. And surprisingly enough he scored the decisive goal. we lost without Collins making a save of note, which is a shame but any suggestion of a whimper is way wide of the mark.
We scored once against them in games they remind me of ipswich in 2000 we just couldn't beat them. Shame if we got through id have fancied us against brentford
i suppose we will have to disagree. My take on it is that we had the better (only) chances in the first leg and probably also the second leg. Obviously, I agree we didn't play as we are capable of but probably that is something to do with the opposition and the way the set up than a chance to have a dig at our lads which your post seems like. And maybe the fact we had clearly run out of steam. How many minutes out of the 180 would you suggest they offered anything?
My post really wasn't intended as a dig, it was intended to be a measured reflection on my disappointment, ending with some perspective and praise. And it resulted in me being told to f off.
Thats fair. I just took offence at the suggestion we went with a whimper when i think this team have been excellent throughout this season and this semi-final.
They definitely weren’t there for the taking !! Anything we got from them was deserved A draw in fairness was a very good result , In reality it wasn’t enough but they definitely weren’t there for the taking .
Swansea weren't great yet we still couldn't beat them after 4 attempts. That to me says more about Barnsley's limitations than it does about Swansea's class. Barnsley are generally one-dimensional and can't adapt enough. The team doesn't create enough chances. A lot of teams have struggled against Barnsley this season because they have been ground down and contained. Swansea were well organized and tight at the back and took the few chances they had. Generally speaking Barnsley didn't have the quality to adapt or the nous to create enough chances. A good season points wise but there is still a lot of room for improvement.
They weren’t there for the taking. Their two centre halves were the best players on the pitch, with Grimes playing just in front of them doing a job as well. They were just too good for us.
