On the other hand, ours has gone down as a success, despite also being beat & knocked out in today’s semi final. Whoever loses the final will also see the season as a huge failure. Now the onus is on us, depending on what we do over the close season, we could be up there competing in the top half again next season. First step is keeping hold of Valerian Ismael and backing him. I’m expecting us to lose Mowatt, but he’s replaceable, hopefully with someone of better quality. I expect us to receive good offers for at least 2 of our players, Styles? Helik? Brittain? Hopefully we don’t sell all at once. It’s also obvious to see we need more cover in midfield, so hopefully our recruitment model can unearth some more gems, which I have no reason to see why it can’t. And finally we need to decide who we need to offload. This is about gradual progress which so far is on the right tracks, so I’m hopeful we don’t see another implosion akin to 2017 which we have just about recovered from. Anyway I am gutted, but grateful we had the opportunity to see this team in the play offs, something we all never expected in a million years! Hopefully all fans can return to stadiums across the UK next season!
Totally agree mate. What makes it even better is we didn't bankrupt ourselves to do it. Head held high, and just think what it must be like now to being a fan of the pigs (both breeds), a Derby, Reading, Forest, Birmingham, Wigan, Sunderland, Ipswich, Charlton, Blackburn, Middlesbrough.......
Good posts i expect offers to come for helik and styles but I think sibbick has improved massively and was good to see liam kitchin come on today and also Jordan Williams back from injury and a great run to set up the equaliser. Let you say keep val keep recruiting how we do and we will be okay.
Keeping hold of Val would be a massive coop for us . His stock is world wide , every league has an eye on him it would be massive for us to keep him . I just hope the expectation doesn’t scare off other suitors . We may not get this journey for quite a while in future but we shouldn’t compare each coach to Vals credentials .
Can see him back in Germany, so many underachieving teams out there. Werder, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Koln, Hertha etc. He's got links to a number of them. Obviously I want him to stay, but he's more German than he is French.
You're only as good as your last game. The plan wasn't to lose in the Play-Offs. The plan was consolidation but we consiidated and made the Play-Offs. Over 46 games it was a success. However, our two game mini season was a resoinding failure. You can only f ec k with the Richard you have and ours had a semi on at best. Season was a failure for me. I won't be watching DVD. It goes in room 101 with 97/98 and 99/00.
If you think this season was a failure (which you obviously can't) then you're kidding yourself to make a point.
Agree to some extent tbh . Our season has been more than a success it’s exceeded expectation by a million miles imo . I just hope the success of this season doesn’t pressure our progression because imo this will come again if we are patient and realise that this season was phenomenal. Not wanting to put a dampener on anything we’ve achieved or saying it won’t happen again but let’s take it season by season and not judge future players or coaches on this out of this world season .
How can this be regarded as a failure?! Gutting to fall short now yes, but a failure? We are far from that.
Of course not. So in daft point scoring you win. But obviously we have performed better than expected and over the two legs of the semi final can feel aggrieved to have been beaten. Obviously Brighton are better than Man City using your awful logic.
Got some corkers going now! Nearly on the Hemsworth’s “I don’t see strikers scoring goals as an attribute” post in legendary status.
To be honest I would say the aim for progression next season is mid table, achieve that & it’s massive progress. Obviously the ultimate aim of the board is premier league football in x years, it has to be! But hopefully expectations are realistic in terms of how much money we put into it. We’ll get there eventually as long as everyone is pulling in the same direction, from the top down including the supporters.
