Jesus christ. I think we will only be without dike and mowatt.

I honestly think if we keep big val. We will sign a bit of quality and be up their again but better too. Sorry I'm optimistic and this is just the start of our journey.

Williams when he came on had a f1cking cracking game. Looked like had a volse wagon engine up his arse how quick he was

    That’s just not right.

He made it clear that he wasn’t going to sign a new contract in the last window. Both him and the club said they’d pick up again in summer.

So the club decided to allow his contract to run down. They could have found someone to pay money for him in January - very easily, even with only six months left on his contract they’d have had a queue of suitors at £500k plus - but decided, correctly I’d say, that he had more value in staying and playing for the rest of the season.

Not signing a new deal does not mean Alex Mowatt has mugged us off. He’d have done that if he’d given anything less than his all - I’ve never seen any even slight suggestion that he did that. He’s been a key element to what we’ve achieved, our leader on the pitch, another example of a local lad in that role.

I will be a little sad if and when he leaves, as he’s done very well. But if other clubs will pay him a lot more than Barnsley will, I offer him nothing but thanks and good luck - it’s a short career and he owes nothing to the club. He’s done everything he signed up to do, and you never know, the next manager, if Val left, might not fancy him as a player and cart him off anyway.

And as for loyalty, it works both ways. From what I’ve heard he’s only asked for pay parity with Cauley Woodrow, who’s our highest earner. On performances from January to now, I know who I think is worth more per week.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Val leave to be honest, but he needs to be careful. He’s at a club where he has a lot of credit in the bank, and expectations won’t be too high unlike a club like West Brom, where he’ll have neither.
But the club need to get an idea ASAP on who the head coach will be next season. We could end up with a coach that prefers to play a back 4, in which case accepting an offer for a centre back would make sense.

I think Val may have done us a favour playing styles out of position as i think he,s been pretty ordinary there, i think if he,d played in his favoured position there would have been a lot of interest...

Don't see how changing managers/ head coaches every year is a sustainable strategy. Really hope he stays and continues the work.

It's gone on far too long. We've heard in the media talks were put on hold because of covid, because of the change in head coach, to concentrate on the league. We've heard many reasons why it just hasn't happened. He's been a great servant for us but I liked it in the past where if negotiations dragged too long with a player we withdrew the offer and moved on. Nobody is bigger than the club. There has to come a time when despite you wanting someone to sign a new contract you decide it's not going to happen, you're wasting your time and you should move on to other targets. This article is from well over a year ago and it's still not sorted......

Gerhard expected it sorted within days......

Not the last few transfer windows and no longer on 2 year contracts - most on 4 so no real pressure to sell

Don't think it's impacted us though? Surely we've been on the lookout for his replacement?

Definitely. With every change, you end up with a coach that wants certain players, and the list of deadwood grows.

And absolutely none of that means Alex Mowatt has mugged us off.

He could just so much say the club have mugged him off by not offering him a reasonable deal.

Neither party could come to an agreement, the club have let him run his contract down. Their choice. They could have sold him.

It has gone on for a long time yeah - but I really don’t see at all how that means he’s mugged us off.

I think Jordan Williams is our best full back to be honest. Certainly if we went to a back four rather than five.

As good as the Callum’s have been, Brittain isn’t a natural defender and Styles is wasted there.

I don’t agree we won’t sell anyone though.

I’d hope they use the money to replace whoever they sell and bring in a left wing/full back. If Styles does stay I’m not sure he is (and importantly wants to be) a long term answer at wing back, Ben Williams will return from injury but I’m not convinced and the same applies to Clark Oduor.

The problem is with Ismael’s style of football is our young team bought into his philosophy but how many other teams with egos and ageing players will want to play the same way? He will surely know he has a unique style and a unique bunch of lads that have adapted to it very well

No way has Mowatt had us for a mug, he has been superb & thoroughly professional , you would have given the owners pelters if he had been sold in january , I wish him well for the future , he owes us nothing .

Agree he has been our best player for the last 3 seasons and 3 out of the 4 managers who were here under him have got the best out of him. He owes us nothing achieved a promotion, helped us stay up last season and then captained us to the play offs. If he was going to stay he would have signed by now he will be able to get better wages elsewhere I suspect sheffield United but will have to wait and see.

Mowatt will go. Dike won’t come back. I don’t expect much of a firesale with the under contract players.

Maybe Helik will attract interest if he makes a few appearances in the Euros.

I expect this seasons transfer window to be very similar to the last one below the premiership
i don't think clubs will buy players before they have sold players
which will lead to a stalemate of nobody buying as was the case last season
clubs all over the world will be very cautious and still afraid of what the future may hold and wont be throwing money around transfer and wages wise
will other clubs be beating our door down to buy our players ?
people keep saying this player or that player will be leaving without actually saying which team will want to buy them and why.

As far as Dike goes i expect us to buy him, Dane said his transfer fee is similar to players we have bought in the past
Orlando's highest transfer fee is one and a half million dollars ,i expect his agreed fee to be around that mark around 1 million pounds
he is only quite young and cant command mega wages i think the last two games showed Championship/maybe a Euro league is his level at the moment defiantly needs another season or two to see where his level is or could end up
Isn't our strategy buy and sell
hard to see how we could lose money on him if Danes transfer talk is correct even if we only keep him for another season

The fee might be agreed but I doubt we will agree personal terms. The “mega bucks” for us is spare change for low premier league teams. We could offer Dike let’s say £10K a week, a low premier league team or high championship team could easily offer £20K and not even blink. Reading Dike’s tweet from earlier too, sounded like a “goodbye thanks fo the memories” kind of thing.

I expect us to meet the agreed fee, but get absolutely blown out of the water in on wages by someone. Best case scenario is a top side takes a punt then loans him straight back to us for the season. Though more realistically someone like Leeds or Burnley will sign him, and probably want him in their squad. Worst case scenario is he goes to another Championship side. Either Sheffield United sign him with their parachute money, or Reading, with some money they haven't got.

pretty much everyone is saying he's definitely off, so good to see at least one person expecting us to sign him. would definitely be a surprise I think. I think £1m is way under value though. didn't we get 2m for Jacob brown? I would be surprised if Orlando agreed less than £5m, but who knows. then there's the wages.
