Agree with this. If you're to get maximum value you have to sell when there is good level left on the contract and when they are on the rise individually, and when the team collectively has achieved.

I wouldn't be surprised to see 5 or 6 of our better players depart.

Had a better season than, George Miller and schmidt but I would be sad to see any of them leave

Players i think we could see clubs wanting in the summer are styles, helik, anderson, Britain and possibly woodrow all have 2 years minimum on there deals so its down to the clubs ambitions and if they've stopped selling players with decent contracts left for peanuts..... interesting summer.

Trouble is, replacing half a team in a single transfer window isn't a particularly sustainable model. I suspect when our accounts for last season are published, the bottom line will be a bit grim despite selling Pinnock, Lindsay and Moore and that will be more of a reflection on money spent on players in that window, rather than impact of the pandemic.

Personally, I'd understand it if Helik were to go, but if he does, that should mean it needs silly money to part with Andersen. If Mowatt goes, we need big money for Styles otherwise the midfield is decimated. They might listen to offers for Brittain, feeling that Williams is a replacement already there. If we can keep hold of Woodrow and Morris, we'll have a decent forward line.

Agree with that too. The owners largely missed out on 12 months of selling potential because of a suppressed market. If that market returns, I have a feeling they will look to make up for that and perhaps ignore the reasons why we were more successful this year, some factors of which will be lost if "normality" resumes.

The key questions will be, is there a buoyant transfer market where we can attain good value for our sales? I'm not sure there is. Can we retain our players against their wishes to leave? I'm not sure we will. Can we replace our better players that we sell with players ready to go in the short term that allow us to improve on the previous season? I'm not sure about that either.

Going to be a huge close season.

Well if they do get rid of 5 or 6 then Val will definitely be off and all the goodwill built up over the last 6 months will vanish.

So I would be most surprised.

I think if we could get really good money for Helik or Styles they could be the ones to depart. If we got 10 million for Helik, would the club feel the need to sell anyone else? Keeping the squad together increases the value of the players going forwards.

I'll be surprised if Ismael is here next season regardless. The owners aren't here for goodwill. We've seen liberal examples of that over the last few years.

They're here to progress the club financially and on the pitch. The bills don't pay themselves. I'd be more than happy to sell Styles, Woodrow or Helik (not them all) if it meant signing a decent central midfielder, two strikers and a left back.

There are so many variables at play, both internal and external. My only hope is we don't get rid of the sublime for more ridiculous.

No business owner operates on goodwill; seems like a strange statement to make. But from what I've seen the owners have been pretty much flawless when it comes to recruitment of players and staff, and isn't that all we need to care about?

As long as they go out there and put a shift in and try to play decent football I don't much care whose in the dug out or on the pitch. The board have got some leeway with me regarding recruitment.

You brought up goodwill initially, hence my statement.

Flawless would suggest every single signing made has been a resounding success? Is that what you're saying?

The only one I think they've gotten wrong was Malik Wilkes. I'd have liked to have seen a bit more of him.

I think you're mistaking me for another poster, I've never mentioned goodwill.

Also, I said "pretty much flawless".

Gonna be interesting to see how it pans out. Bottom line is we're all guessing. I'm clinging onto Chien Lee's words at Oakwell on the first leg though: "whatever the outcome, we will be a stronger squad next season". Obviously the definition of that is subjective, but I don't see how losing Mowatt, DK, Helik/Andersen, Styles, Brittain and Woodrow could by any measure be seen as a stronger squad.

You mean... you aren't all the same???? ;-)

So pretty much flawless is what.... 99% successful for all incomings and value of outgoings? 95%? Less?

Not replying to anyone in particular on this but I doubt that most fans, deep down, would be surprised if we see a mini exodus. It goes with the territory of being successful. We promise these players game time and development, in return for dedication, hard work, an affinity with the community, and the promise that if it clicks they can go advance their futures both from a footballing perspective and a financial one.

They've stuck to their part of the bargain in spades recently. As there's zero evidence that the owners take money out of the football club, the glass half full types like me would see 3/4 or maybe even 5 players leaving as our first real opportunity to show what this recruitment model can do. The calibre of player we recruit to replace them 'should' be of a higher standard than we've seen in the past. The challenge as always for us is that we're a small club with limited resources for wages, so for every player we can find at the £1 million to even £3 million price bracket, can we afford the wages that comes with that player?

I think Mowatt and Dike are gone, and would discount them from any exodus list as I'm not sure that's entirely a club decision. I then think you'll see Helik and Brittain move on with Madds potentially staying due to that extra year in his contract, with Styles maybe having 12 months more because his value as a successful CM replacing Mowatt will be five times higher than his value as a LWB. Reality is though they'll be interest in a lot of our players and some big money offers to accept or turn down.

My biggest worry is Val. You don't take a team like us to 5th in the league without being one of the hottest properties in British or European football. Every club that needs a new manager will have him on the shortlist - it's just whether he's their first target and how far down their list they get.
