Ah, hello again and thank you for more surreal comments. I‘m delighted we finished above the relegation zone. A successful season, even though it was a painful watch. Hopefully next season can be both successful and enjoyable to watch.
With such a small budget in comparison to 21 other teams in the league I think that will be a tall order but you never know. I remember hecky been in charge had us hovering just above the drop at Xmas time everyone told me what a great job he is doing with such a small budget. Val comes in takes over a team 4th bottom, not his players, 3rd smallest budget in league gets us to play off..... footballs ***** to watch though. Love it
Been quite a few examples of hoofball being successful over the years. Several managers made a career out of it. I don’t enjoy watching any of their teams either.
Ahh okay, makes more sense now. The starting 11 isn’t too bad (although it’d be a lot of pressure for Morris to get the goals) but the bench looks very weak. I guess we’ll all just have to see what happens over the summer.
In the 20 odd year I've been watching us ive seen us play good enjoyable football the whole season about 3 occasions wilson, Bassett and stendel. I found this season enjoyable not so much the football on show but yo actually win games and not be the laughing stock by the other Yorkshire clubs and not in a relegation scrap.
I can completely understand that sentiment. I don't get the chance to see us as much as some do, so I can fully appreciate (and remember from my season ticket holding time and following them home and away every single week and midweek) that losing more often than not is wearing and isn't enjoyable either. So I appreciate some will welcome winning by any means. Because I see them less, it's more of a treat, it's more about the spectacle and style and thats what I take pride from. I'm not decrying anyone else on their view, I'm merely saying I just don't get enjoyment from how we play, and there are increasingly others stating that too. That doesn't mean either that I can't appreciate the insane levels of fitness and graft this style requires and the character of the players in not slowing up with it and the ability to translate a strategy with more nuanced tactics into a system that produces results. There have been coaches in my time that have played decent football. In the first full season under Machin we played some very decent stuff, and mixed set pieces, a target man, but passing it through midfield too and getting wing backs involved. Heckingbottom had a spell before all his players were sold that was enjoyable and we dominated the ball and had wide players using pace and trickery, but we also used set pieces well. We might all be Barnsley fans, but we have different preferences and likes. And as long as it doesn't become a vitrilioc spleen vent, there shouldn't be anything wrong with sharing those views and preferences. .
When he's on, Williams regularly makes, or attempts that sort of run. Trouble is, he's the only one of our midfielders or defenders with any pace to do it. If we can get a pacy left wing back and keep hold of Styles to play central, our starting midfield won't look too shabby at all. We can 100% agree on how good the finish was.
I agree with you apart from the latter point. Good goal scorers are very hard to find, and when you do, they've very expensive
