No, I'm highlighting your misrepresentation of my comment. If you don't think Ismaels vertical football isn't hoofball then thats your prerogative to say so. Over the weekend I've had chats with fans of Leicester, Charlton, Arsenal, Newcastle, Reading and Brighton. And although universally they wanted us to win, their take on our style over those two games was unanimously, and without bias, that we play freakish hoofball.
Yeah I do get all that. And tbh if he does go I won’t be much more than disappointed. Certainly won’t be surprised or angry. Does frustrate me though, to hear managers constantly asking players to commit to clubs, honour their contract, keep developing at their club etc. Managers are every bit as ruthless as players in pursuing their careers. If not more. Heckingbottom taught me to never get attached to a manager again, and I won’t. If Val goes, he goes. Barnsley Football Club is the thing I follow.
And I've spoken with far more fans than that and not had the word 'freakishly' used. Unlucky, probably the better team, thought you were going to take it in to extra time. But freakish? We lacked composure and the occasion played us at times, but in both second halves, especially the first game, it was a superb and enjoyable spectacle of football. So many people I've spoken to enjoyed the games. That's why the Oakwell faithful stayed with the team last Monday. It wasn't aimless 'hoof ball' at all. You've admitted you don't watch all of our games anymore, as anytime we've played really well it seems you've missed it, so I'm confused how you're suddenly an expert in the expectations of West Brom fans? There's some really balanced opinions on here. Those who don't necessarily enjoy Big Val's style, but don't hate on it like you. You consistently make us sound like we're anti-football and whilst every opinion is valid I just find it incredibly unfair. It's too extreme but you're involved in every thread repeating it and repeating it. Some of your points are actually valid, but they just get lost unfortunately in what feels a little bit like a barrage of negativity towards such a phenomenal season.
Although I have registered a vote in the poll it is really too early to make a call , not only do we have to judge our squad & potential when it has taken shape, but more to the point its how some of the other teams approach recruitment & prepare for next season , I think there will be one or two clubs who will throw the kitchen sink at promotion & some clubs will have new found investment which could have a huge impact but the bookies are usually a reasonable guide , they are rarely far off the mark.
I can only relay what others shared with me, sorry it doesn't fit with what you heard from some circles. You have a view I fundamentally disagree with. I have a view you seem to fundamentally disagree with. You enjoy it, I don't. There's nothing wrong with that, is there? All my opinions are reasoned and considered, and the downside of written form is tone of voice, so you won't hear how my words sound, just how they are written. I have no agenda against our team, I want them to do well, i want to enjoy the way they play. I'm sorry, but I just don't, as much as i really really want to.
Commenting today with what I think our squad might look like, I’d take a lower half mid table finish and I’d expect that to be where we are. I don’t expect a relegation battle but we won’t beat teams with the shock and awe we did this season just ended either. I think we missed our best chance - no criticism, they did what they could, but I don’t think we will improve on this season to be honest. I hope to be very wrong.
I'd take 21st now. That's still got to be the base requirement because of how devastating the fall out is because of failing to attain it. There are way too many variables to give an assessment now though. Who will be coach? Who will leave and for how much? Will the transfer market be active or depressed? What players will we bring in? what style will we play if its a different coach and how long will it take to bed in? What players will it suit and which will struggle and move from first team regulars to the fringe? Will full crowds be back all season and will that have an effect? Will some players attitudes change from finishing 5th? Will character shine through more than disappointment from play off defeat? So many variables. Lets see what shape we're in come the close of the August transfer window.
If Val stays we'll end up in the Prem in 2 years. Next season will be a season of transition, just like DW's 2nd season, 10th place. Then 3rd season we'll smash the Championship up and get promoted
I hope it's not like 2000/01 season where the players left didn't put in a proper shift due to Play-Off hangover resulting in Bassett getting sacked.
I can imagine them wanting out if Val leaves and the next appointment is all wrong. Law of averages says we're due another numpty.
ooooh, I don't know. Maybe they'll want to stay and have a rest after running around like maniacs for 12 months
Fulham will piss the division. Blades & WBA there or thereabouts, plus all the usual suspects in the top half. 12th-15th for us.
Fans might be used to hoof, but they weren't happy with Pulis and his style of play. Don't know how they've reacted to Allardyce, but that was a desperate appointment. Ismael should also consider the fact that they sacked Darren Moore while they were sat in 4th. Not sure West Brom would be a good move for him. Palace would be a different story.
