Just to get something straight, I dont think
If they had a gun Helen I wouldn't be waving it about ( thats Hollywood)me personally would put 2 straight into their face, I would also like to think I would identify my target and be 100% sure that I was justified and proportionate, believe me ( I've been there) justifiable and proportionate are 2 of 3 words ( can't remember the third) which you are asked, was it justifiable? Well he had a gun...tick, did you turn his head into a tea bag, " No" 2 rounds, so it was proportional... tick, quick edit i think its " did you feel a threat towards your life" ..tick

You are 10x more likely to be killed in a gun-related incident in the USA (120/million in 2017) than you are to be murdered in the UK (12/million). However, of those gun-related deaths, over half are suicide and just over 1/3 are murder). If you discount the gang-related violence in the larger cities, having a gun in your house makes it significantly more likely that one of you family members will die from it in a self-inflicted injury than an intruder.

Yikes. Wouldn't think twice about shooting someone in the face?

Laughing. It's funny how all pro-gun people are the real life versions of Jack Bauer who are ice cool under pressure, never miss, never mistake their targets, never accidentally discharge a weapon, never leave it where children might access it etc.

The fact that you think it's all so simple and straightforward is the reason gun laws are needed. The people who want guns the most are the ones who really shouldn't be allowed them.

    Even when you’re wrong?
Having a gun in the house makes your family more likely to be harmed by a gun. That’s a fact. Another fact is that if you have a gun and someone else has a gun, your chances are 50:50 at best. The reality is that a president was shot whilst surrounded by the best trained armed close protection in the world.
The ‘good guy with a gun’ is a myth. AFAIK there was one recent mass shooting where the assailant was brought down by an armed member of the public, but only after several other people were shot.

But as I posted before; there’s a macho belief that we can defend ourselves, and the fact that it’s bullsh 1t doesn’t stop people believing it.

My opinion on this is that none of your opinions matter, neither does mine. Let Texas be Texas and stop trying to force your beliefs on others.

Do you mean like you're doing? I'll pass comment on who or what I want and I certainly don't need your permission to do so.

But in that time wouldn't they have shot you first cos they had a gun? Or are you saying you'd shoot first and find out if they were armed second?

Your profile suggests you're in Utah. Not sure if that's the case, but a quick flick on Wikipedia (caveat lector) makes for interesting reading.

"Utah's firearm laws are some of the more permissive in the United States"
"A 2013 study ranked Utah the lowest among all 50 states in the category of gun control legislation"
"Allows for open carry of 'unloaded firearms' without a concealed firearm permit" (interesting definition of 'unloaded')
"Utah is a "Castle Doctrine" state, in which there is no duty to retreat before use of deadly force"

Guns not allowed in Church though. Too far.

I'm aware. A town close to where I used to live pretty much forced all residents to own a gun, lol.
It's funny that the original poster said "Well, thats one less place in America I'll be travelling to" when Texas isn't even in the top 10 of states with violent crime rates. The numbers from Texas and California sometimes look worse but that's a population thing, on average neither are top 10. He should be looking at other states to avoid first. As for your Utah statistics, Utah is well below the national average on violent crime even with a growing population. Why do you even care so much though? Which was my original point.

@JLWBigLil I never said you can't have an opinion, just that it doesn't matter. You don't live there. Why people think they have the right to change Texas culture or judge Texas culture when they live thousands of miles away is baffling to me.
The UK has it's own issues and problems, lots of them.

Not really a joke though is it mate? Fair game on football opinions, or even lockdown, but to joke I'm pro-guns and a Trump vest wearer when the thread has zero to do with me? Not on really.

    That's actual character assassination there.

It was me that said it's one less place in the US I'll be travelling to, but that's now simply because I can't go anywhere someone could be carrying a loaded gun without even requiring training or a license to do so. The fact that's actually allowed fundamentally baffles and terrifies me.
