Where the hell as that figure come from. Dane has said on more than one occasion that its a fee we can afford. 14.5 million is way beyond that fee
I don't think any of us fans know what the fee is. What would be your guess, out of interest ? I'm thinking 3 million ish was agreed but a total guestimation
Considering our record fee was 1.5m i would say 3m is pushing it but maybe realistic. I would say 14.5m is akin to seeing Halley's comet 3 years in a row
If we have first dibs at him for an affordable figure then there's nothing to say we don't have a big sell on clause which we would pay back to Orlando. That's always assuming he does well and progresses as we would all hope.
Hasn’t he played less than 30 professional football games in total? I’d say he is super, super raw. But that’s just my opinion. The way we used him we’ve no idea whether he can run with the ball, what composure he has on a one on one situation, and he failed to turn up in the Playoffs. That’s not a dig, but players his own age managed to shepherd him out the game. He was a phenomenal signing for us and I love him. But I can think that and question what we’ve seen in his dozen or so games for us. Two or three he was unplayable, some he disappeared a bit, others he did well and managed to pop up in the right place for an important goal. Any talk of £15 million plus for him is a bit nuts. But football is a bit nuts.
Based on our CEO mocking and laughing at the figures in the press? I’d be saying £2-£3 million. But to be honest I’m not sure we’ll ever truly know as I don’t think we’ll agree terms and therefore it will always be speculation. Got to trust your own CEO over the hype train that is the US media though surely?
It's a shame really because at around the 3 million mark it might be do able and we would be the perfect stepping stone for him, but unfortunately I'd agree with you and can't see it happening.
I thought he came in and made our so called senior forwards look very inferior, Woodrow and Chaplin have disappeared for months not games.
I don’t think you’d ever sign Chaplin though if it was a recruitment window under Val. Woodrow and Dike probably equally as missing during the time they’ve been in the squad together. Difference for Dike is his athleticism, rawness, and power meant he could drag himself back in to a game at any point. Woodrow doesn’t have that luxury sadly. Equally impressed, if not more, with Morris to be honest. Who I think has looked superb despite not even being fit
I agree about Morris he looks the complete foreward and has a bit of everything in his locker. Hopefully Woodrow can get back to his old form and as for Chaplin I'd rather have Dike all day long.
But plenty of clubs would. He’s scored 9 goals, at a rate better than a goal every other game, at the age of 20. He has a raw talent, but he’s already scoring goals. Clubs will pay a fee way beyond what we would consider paying for a player, for that.
When we signed Dike people knew little of him. It was a risk that paid off. Clubs are now more aware so while i would say any club would be buying potential more than the final product, they now at least know what they are getting. His attributes, weaknesses, attitude and all now known to a large extent. This will help align a price. He is worth what clubs are prepared to pay. Some clubs are more suited to a target man / physical striker. Spurs, Palace, Everton but also clubs like Watford and Burnley. I think best move for him would be championship with release options after a year. It would also be good for the club and possibly Orlando too. I fear if he goes to a top Prem club now he may never fulfil that potential in the first team at this stage and start to drop down the pyramid and lose valuable first team years. Im sure he will have had some good advise.
That doesn’t make any sense either. We have never paid 2-3 million for anyone. Ever. As you rightly said, Dane claimed the fee we agreed was in line with what we've recently been paying for players. I would suggest Dike is top end of that, so a million at most.
If this mythical fee is £1m, it may as well be £100m. There are literally dozens of teams who will pay five times that without flinching. £1m is ridiculously undervalue
We’ve tabled bids of £2 million plus for strikers in the past but been unable to agree wages. He said it was in and around what we’re comfortable paying.
