    What a crap thing to do ... either select him or don’t. If not selected it is a wasted chance to look at how selected players play together.
    Not a time for consolation prizes.

    Proper baffled me too. It's a warm-up game, a chance to test things out etc. So we are playing someone he's cut from the squad?

    Not even watching it tbh , This manager wouldn’t know his best team or formation if it smacked him in the chops .
    Not putting a marker on Modric in the World Cup semis told me all I needed to know about him , he’s a yes man pure and simple and that’s why he’s got the gig imo .
    I’m taking this opportunity to watch the season match recap and it’s absolutely fekin brilliant .

    My take on it is: Henderson is not 100% fit - sub for one game at Liverpool their last match - he isn’t match fit. Southgate I suspect is well aware, rules on replacements allow for call ups, play lingard in hendo’s position half an eye that he won’t make it. Henderson pulls out of squad by the weekend. All bets are off if lingard does something daft in the interim. Can’t work the McGuire thing out at all, barely walk last Wednesday night.
    Centre backs were plentiful for England at one time. Stones and Mings to start first proper match

    Would have been long odds on having the top two threads on the BBS being about Jesse Lingard tonight!

    I think there's a handful of players not fit, there was an agreement not to play any of the Champions League/Europa League Finalists, and if someone drops out of that 26 man squad in the coming days he's probably the first one to come in.

    Seems a bit strange but I guess it rewards him for his season performances and allows us to rotate/keep fresh.

    I don't think there's anything wrong with letting players rest who featured in the two European Finals. Still good for the rest of the squad to get some match practice in and for England fans to be able to watch the team.

    Why is Lingard being singled out? Doesn't the same apply to Ben White etc who are also not in the Euros squad, or am I missing something?

    Never argued otherwise. But once the squad is announced, the players playing in a friendly (if it is even necessary) should be those in the squad. I’d suggest that this game is probably unnecessary.

    Glorified kick about in front of some supporters. No harm done surely?

    I think playing Lingard is fine. Replacements could come in to squad and he’s the obvious next one. I was just commenting on you mentioning a fit squad in response to the 10 players being out.
