    There are so many things where to start? If I was to pick one thing it would be this: the elite cable which run our media/politics/civil service/banks. Probably the greatest thing which hold this country back is the benighted corridors of power run by the same upper class public school group who have swapped running the empire with running the country and doing just as bad a job of it. Enabled by their school mates in the media and the city who support them financially. Just take everyone who goes to Oxbridge to study PPE and deport them to the Ascension islands - the last corner of our great empire and let them run it like their grandparents did, and leave the country to be run by people of substance and competence.

    Absolutely Wakeyred!! Just about to post the same. The class system in this country is alive and well. We just don't seem to have moved on from the Victorian times, neither do we appear to want to as a collective.

    We just seem as a country to wallow in nostalgia and think about how great we once were and use this as a basis for going forward.

    I know every one moans & groans about this that & the other about our country but at the end of the day we are the fortunate ones , there are plenty of places in the world worse than this , the climate is good , we have freedom of speech & countless other benefits , I could go on & on but at the end of the day its down to choice , I love my country & love my life & if I didn"t then I would choose to live somewhere else , simple as that .

    Good shout, sadly I can't see any government changing the system that has just got them into power.

    I'd like to see people in this country who refuse to have their covid vaccine get it administered by a big game hunter using a dart gun whilst driving the jeep they used on the kids tv show On Safari.

    Winter = Slushy and grey,
    Spring = Windy and grey,
    Summer = Muggy and grey,
    Autumn = Depressing and grey

    This is tongue in cheek by the way although I do think a lot of expats have a romantic idea of what the seasons they miss are actually like. Yes, the Lake District turns gold, red and brown in Autumn but in town everything is just grey, dark and miserable.

    Increase social mobility.

    What goes up should be able to come down and vice versa.

    Dunno how to do it , but incentivise folk to keep trying.

    Climate change will sort that out, though it may take a generation or two ;-)

    It's not always easy to choose to live elsewhere though. But I agree, we're fortunate to live in a country not prone to natural disasters above all.

    I agree with you & its also nice to know that when you board an aeroplane you can fly over the u.k safely without the risk of having the plane brought to ground , security forces entering the plane & arresting passengers for having a political view
    So will other countries

    With proportional representation you will always get vile, racist, ultra right wing representation in our Parliament. The national front or the BNP or whatever political party it is these days that represent these views, and there will be one because this ideology hasn't gone away, are the biggest advocates of PR because it will guarantee them MPs at every election. And this will ensure prejudice and hate have a legitimate platform on which to speak.

    There is an argument that bringing such views out in the open is the best way to counter them. I understand that. But these MPs will be given a constituency to represent. What benefits are there for the residents of a constituency represented by the Neo Nazi party who will have probably gained less than 3 percent of the vote in that constituency, as they did nation wide, which was enough to give them 20 MPs.

    Just an aside re the politics, seats and systems.

    After 2 aborted attempts to change the seat boundaries (that cost the taxpayer £7m) and reduce the commons to 600, the tories are about to push the seat changes through without a vote, while maintaining MP numbers at 650. Polling suggests these changes will likely give the tories a further 10 seats.
