Sounds like the club know which other clubs are in for him and are trying to persuade him we're the best option. Just throws up questions as to who the other clubs are? I reckon Millwall, Sheff Utd, Forest and Derby.
He's not going to Millwall - it's too far South. Derby haven't got a proverbial pot to **** in, so they won't be signing anyone
I don't think he's signing for us. We know he's recently bought a new home in Doncaster and Millwall are the only confirmed club to register an interest. I reckon his dilemma is whether he wants to sign for Sheff Utd, Forest or try a new place with Millwall. I honestly don't think we're a factor.
I’m using the same info and coming to a completely different conclusion. He’s unlikely to want to go to Millwall, Sheffield U are a definite threat, and Forest would depend on his dads view (he comes from a mining village- and it’s obvious from everywhere that might be an issue for him). So; my view is it’s between us and the Blunts, and unless the cash difference is huge (we can use a signing on fee to overcome our salary cap), that sways in favour of the status quo IMHO.
Sorry but would someone weighing up possibly the most important move of their career seriously consider not signing for Forest because of something that happened nearly forty years ago and ten years before he was born? That would be jawdropping.
You say that, but it still colours the opinions of many on here, based on how it affected their friends and family. That being said, I think we will find money is at least a mitigating circumstance and the principles of most of us can be overcome by a big wedge of cash.
Completely agree. Anyone who has issues with football teams from Nottingham due to the strike needs to give their head a shake and that's coming from someone who's Dad was out for 12 months and got arrested and thrown into the back of a van at Orgreave.
Stoke or Luton surely As much as I rate Mowatt, I think the blunts will be looking at a higher calibre of midfielder who’s played in the premier league to try and guarantee promotion 1st time around. I honestly don’t think Mowatt gives them that pedigree.
Stoke isn’t a bad shout but Luton? I know they like an ex red but I would be astounded if he ended up there. Sheff U or us for me. He got in the team of the season so I think he’s good enough for Sheff U.
If his ambition is to be challenging towards the Premier League he has to move to Sheffield Utd, Forest or Stoke. Have we got genuine Premier League promotion ambition? I suspect not. We'll have a good go but too much needs to click. At other clubs there are less variables that need to click. That's no slant on us or last seasons efforts.
I’m not passing any judgement, just commenting on something that a lot of people find very important. Feel free to think that’s daft, but in Barnsley or Donny I can see it being a genuine issue. OTOH it could be a complete non-issue, but dismissing the possibility would be odd.
I'd say Forest and Stoke would need a lot more to click than we do at the moment. Though the budgets they have may make it more likely. Not moves I'd particularly recommend though.
It goes back further than the miner's strike. I believe Mowatt comes from the Woodlands area, historically part of Barnsdale Forest where Robin Hood lived. The Sheriff of Nottingham was Robin Hood's chief opponent and wanted to capture and kill him. This ancient animosity means that there's no way will Mowatt sign for Nottingham Forest.
I don’t reckon he’ll sign a new contract with us. It would be nice if he did but as long as we recruit wisely then I think we’ll be fine. Yes we have some players who could fill the void if he leaves, but I think we need a better calibre player than what we’ve already got. Depending on if Big Val’s gonna be here & the clubs ambition going forward after the season we’ve just had could also be a factor as to whether he signs or not. Don’t get me wrong, he’s been fabulous for us the past 3 seasons, but as other’s have eluded to before, he doesn’t owe us anything. Good player, but not indispensable IMO.
