Car drivers - advice please

If you’re considering a VW Golf then the Octavia is a more practical version of it. Massive boot (if this is important) and exactly the same running gear as the Golf for typically a couple of grand less. Definitely worth checking out. Cheaper main dealer servicing as well.

 

Had mine since jan 2018 it had 126k on now on 170k still average 42 knocking around and 68 on a long run. Looking at a newer model later on in the year

 

Merc A Class might be worth a look?

 

It's always been the car that when I've seen them, I've always liked the look of. One of my best mates has had a couple, although he's now got a TypeR which I'm afraid my budget isn't stretching to. So when starting this thread, I had already decided in my head that it'd be a Civic I'd get.

But that's why I asked, because it's given me food for thought. Going to look at these Octavia's that folk keep mentioning, and the Leon. Do a bit more research. I'm not planning on buying one until October, because I've not even passed the test yet! Just trying to get a heads up etc.

 

Walked by one yesterday actually and looks decent.

 

Just recently sold mk7 golf. I've had 4 over the years, all bang on. Only sold it to finance t6. Definitely have another. All the brake assist and adaptive cruise control stuff was fantastic.

 

Insurance now becomes a factor!

 

Look at a toyota auris, hatch or tourer, Toyota's are bullet proof, I bought a Verso new in 2005, ran it for 13 years, never let me down, only cost was servicing, tyres, pads. Traded in for Auris hybrid, nice bit of kit, changed it in march for a Prius plus hybrid, only changed because the wife had trouble getting in the auris because of hip trouble. BUT as Jay said there are very few bad cars around now, they've all upped their game since the 70's and 80's and there's also a lot of collaboration between companies. My son has just test drove a MG HS, and a Kia Sportage he says there's no comparison, the MG wins hands down even though it's a lot lot cheaper, and you get a 7 year warranty, 0% finance on new pcp deals, might be worth an inquisitive look.

Correct, and I'll have my even older missus on it, who has never had an accident in her life. It won't be cheap, nothing ever is. But I'm hardly a teenage boy-racer, so should be okay.

 

Golf

Just replaced a golf GT (diesel TDI) with a Golf GTi.

I feel fuxking 18 again lol.

Absolutely rock solid and I don't think I will drive much else since I switched to a Golf a few years back.

The GTi I bought a few weeks back. REG starts DK..... so must have been a sign at the time, no idea what it means now like lol

 

Regardless of which motor you plump for, don't drive on the hard shoulder in it.

I had a focus once, it had an electric heated front windscreen which I've never seen on any other car I've owned. Absolute god-send on a frosty morning.

 

No longer under patent to Ford so a lot of cars do have them now.

 

Recommend a Seat Leon. FR model sufficient. Ideally DSG which has made me a realllllly lazy driver.

 

That now makes sense.

I used to think why didnt all cars have it. And only remember seeing it on my sisters car, A ford CMax, at the time.

Go sit inside. You’ll spend 99% of the time inside it and 1% looking at it.

what feels comfortable, where the switches and stuff are. sounds daft but some are designed by people wearing blindfolds I’m sure

As jay said earlier most cars are pretty much bob on nowadays.
