You can hug someone..... yes, from 17th May rules were relaxed when indoor venues were opened. Though I may suggest foisting yourself on a stranger will always pretty much be frowned upon! ;-)
Can you show me the source of your 90% figure please? Whilst you’re looking, here’s some food for thought: More than 10% of the adult population are retired. In total more than 30% of the adult population is ‘economically inactive. At least 10% of the working population are currently working from home, with more that could if necessary. All children are about to take a 6 week holiday, so have plenty of time to fit in staying home for 10 days following a holiday.
Do yourself a favour and read up on what we can actually do. It'll hopefully help calm you down a little bit.
Like I said in my other post people don't want to fly with masks on, red and Amber destinations aren't worth the risk of travelling to, and even going to a green country you run the risk of the country changing to red or amber and running around finding flights that have turned extortionate to get home. People don't want to even if they can isolate at home for 10 days after a holiday its not worth it at all. The amber countrys are a joke it should be just you can go without restrictions or its a no go zone simple.
You stated as fact: For 90% of people isolating after a holiday isn't a option I asked for a source of your 90% figure and it appears you don't have one. What you actually meant was that you believe people don't want to go on holiday under the current circumstances. I congratulate you for adding to the old adage '99% of all statistics are made up on the spot'
Ok maybe 90% was inaccurate could be more could be less. But the holiday situation isn't great is it? Who wants to go on holiday to quarantine for 10 days at home after? Who wants there kids to be stuck in the house in the 6 week holidays quarantine? The fact is even if 10% people are retired like you say i don't think they want to be sat at home for 10 days after a prisoner in your own home isn't a great thing to look forward coming home to. Where are you going on holiday? Like I said it should either be red or green do you agree? The fact holiday firms are giving refunds and allowing re booking on amber destinations speaks volumes. The fact that people were rushing to get back from pourtugal other week paying extortionate flights as it went amber tells you people don't want to quarantine?
I agree its not ideal and obviously restrictions will put some people off, but I'll add some caveats. There are people who have second homes or family overseas. They'll go to that place and holiday and work, they may be able to dodge the system claiming they are working. That may not be a high proportion, but I know of 3 people who are doing just that. My wife had a zoom call with some friends earlier in the week and she said 3 of them were going abroad, 2 were staying in Uk to holiday and 1 wasn't doing anything. There will also be a group of people who'll go and not quarantine. Do we have the resource to monitor and assess properly if people think sod it? I agree with you, I wouldn't bother going overseas necessarily, though my circumstances are different anyway, but there will be plenty who still do go away and will choose to ignore as much of the restrictions as they can.
This looks like a sensible step. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/health/coronavirus-hospitals-nhs-england-data-b1862804.html
I think you talking about a very small minority dodging the system with holiday homes. The people who I know who have booked have now re booked as tui offer cancellations and re bookings to amber countries. The fact people were running around paying over the top flights back from pourtugal suggests many do not want to quarantine or ignore the system. Again a small minority may go to amber countries and ignore the rules but is it worth it.
I don't think it is worth it, but there will be people who do it and there have been plenty of examples over the last 15 months sadly. And those who have been fully working from home anyway, its not a huge ask to go away and then just work from home "in quarantine" so think accountants, lawyers, professional services, insurance, office based workers, there are plenty of those who can do that.
But thats not the point is it people are arguing that we can go on holiday then when I point out all the restrictions and the fact that it isn't worth it. Well some will be able to go because..... the fact is holidays are off for the majority of people who don't want/ cant quarantine even if your working from home many won't want to quarantine as it means after work your stuck in house no meeting with friends/family no socialising.
I think you'll be surprised just how many people will be going away in the comings weeks and months. The flights are there, the ability to travel is there, our own teams manager has done just this, and isn't Dubai a red list?
Not for me and many I know who won't go to amber or red destinations. Dubai is red and if I had as strong covid views as you have aired on here I'd be having a word with your manager and letting him know how you feel people should not be taking holidays in red destinations.
The Barnsley team manager, Ismael. It was in one of the articles, I think from Murphy, saying he was on holiday with his family in Dubai.
Folk are leaving the country in decent numbers; the Amber list is a joke. Let's not forget that the 2nd lock down was a direct consequence of holidaymakers returning from the Med. The Alpha variant took ahold because of the lax travel, border and track and trace policies. Delta variant; again not closing the borders. The South African and Brazilian variants didn't appear out of thin air. Folk moaning about not being able to do things in this country, need to look at those who couldn't wait to leave the country and a government that backed it. I count family members in that category. The airline and foreign travel operators have my sympathy and needed support. However by rushing to travel abroad you damage the national recovery in all other sectors including our NHS. I feel for those you've not seen loved ones abroad I really do. However there was always a tiny risk before covid this might happen. Most living or working away from the UK probably never thought this would occur, more chance of us getting in the playoffs.
Well that shouldn't be happening in your earlier post you said you knew 3 who were breaking the rules so I hope you had a word with them.
