I cant see many new players coming in unless we sell any. The model works through selling players at a good profit and bringing in new young replacements. I think Cole is Dike replacement with Woodrow dropping back to centre of the front 3. We still have a rotating front 6 as i would be surprised if we get any bids in the current climatre for Vic, Frieser, Chaplin, but they all did a job last season and should get another chance to improve. If Helik goes then we have Halme, Sibbick, Kitchin Solbaure, Anderson, Moon to come in. If Mowatt stays then surely with Davies, Kane, Palmer, Styles Moon Halme, Wolf Brittain thats good enough to cover the centre mid spots. If Mowatt goes then i would bring in a replacement. Left wing back but again Oduor, B Williams, Styles, J Williams should do a decent job. Im ok with sticking with the squad again next season, another years experience and keeping a squad together is better than starting with loads of new signings to take time to fit in.
I agree with you , I do not see many incomings unless some of the fringe players move on , I think a specialist left wing back & move out Victor , Chaplin & Miller with Cole already in & Marsh hopefully coming through possibly one more striker , I am not sure why you think Helick will be moving , I am expecting him to be here & I also think Mowatt will re -sign , we will see , interesting times.
I don't think Cole will be Dike's replacement, considering we've made an offer of £1.5m for another striker (Stipe Perica). I think it's more likely that he's a replacement for Chaplin or Adeboyejo. No doubt a few of the fringe players will leave; Ritzmaier, Schmidt, Miller, maybe even Thomas or Simoes. Other than that, if we keep hold of everybody else, we only need a left wing-back, and a forward.
Yup. 1 or 2 signings maybe. Having already signed 2. That may be well it. So all these latest rumours. are just that. at the mo. I think I've heard of 4/5 connections already. Just paper fillers for me.
Agree with this. My preference would be to thin the squad out a little, we've a huge squad. Would rather see 4 or 5 fringe players allowed to move on to clear way for the young lads to develop if they are deemed good enough. With Coles signing, its further edged towards increasing the average age of the squad which I think is a good thing. 4 or 5 out on the fringes, maybe one significant sale if the fee merits and maybe one more in, but where would likely depend on who was sold.
Vic i dont rate he just lacks everything, friezer and chaplin loan them out no problem id av thought, although i think chaplin could get goals he didnt fluke that spell where he went on a fantanstic scoring run, and if we were to loan them out surely it would be to save money for better signings.p.s ad luv vic to av a great pre season and start doing a fantastic job up top for us.
Think this will be the case. Departures for players like Schmidt, Thomas and Simoes which will increase opportunities for likes of Marsh and Aitchison. We'll no doubt be linked with a bunch of players where an agent has thrown our name out there (like Dykes last year, and I suspect the current Downes link is another one of these), and there might be a player similar to Whiteman and Kyle Joseph, who the club make their interest in public while making another signing under the radar. As already said in this thread, DM has already said we're only going to sign a couple, with left wing back a stated position. Assuming that would be to allow Styles to play central if Mowatt moves on.
I'd say the 2 players most likely to move for a potentially significant fee at present are Styles and Helik, the latter who has had a meteoric rise and is in the shop window at an international tournament. It may be we lose Styles and the LWB is for his replacement rather than to allow him to play centrally. It will all come out in the wash though.
Great season last season but if we want to move forward again then we need to strengthen the squad with at least 3 or 4 even if no one leaves. The biggest problem we had last season was a unless Dike or Morris were on the subs bench we had a lack of quality to come on and change the game.
I thought some of our so called lesser players contributed well whether starting or coming off the bench and with out their contribution we would have failed to reach the play offs. We had won 6 out of 8 in Dec before the arrival of Morris early Jan and Dike early Feb. Credit to those lads and to Big Val.
I'm assuming if we can't shift some of the fringe players on that they'll go out on loan again to subsidise the wages. One or two we'll have to take a loss on, if a buyer is found I suspect.
Helik could, should probably will get some attention from the euros as such upping his value. I also think we are still in the moving a player or two on for decent money to balance the books and give us cash to bring a couple of good young ones in and we have plauers now ready to drop in to the first team.
We could do with looking at shipping out double figures worth of players who aren't good enough for where we want to push on to. Loaning most of them out (like Thomas appears to be) is probably the best we can hope for though with so little cash around clubs.
