If what I just read is correct, they have only 14 players contracted for next season, including 1 striker and no centre backs

Fingers crossed that they suffer next year. Hope we get them last game of the season.

I don't see that. He claimed he would have stayed even if they had been relegated. We'll never know about that, but he would have had ample excuse to jump ship before now if he wasn't up for the challenge. He can't be motivated by the money, and I'm sure he could have secured a more glamourous managerial assignment if he'd pushed. Possibly at Premier League level. I think it will be interesting to see whether he can improve their fortunes next season, although clearly there's some sorting out to be done off the field first. His past history probably precludes him from being described as 'likeable', but he strikes me as a proper football man, and his interviews are very calm and measured these days.

Agree with all of that except Rooney perhaps getting better offers.
No premier league club is going to hire a manager who’s only had one job and failed. They might take a punt on a big name ex player who has had a small success, but surely not one who just survived relegation with one of the biggest budgets in the league.

I’ve more fear we’d lose Val to a premier league team; and I have close to zero fear of that.

Agreed. Just because he's a former good footballer doesn't automatically make him a good manager or coach. In fact if anything is say his football career and history would put me off hiring him rather than encourage it.

He's a man with a documented history of immaturity, poor discipline both on and off the pitch, he has no honour, he's a convicted dangerous drunk driver, cheated on his wife many times and apart from anything else he may have had talented feet but he had absolutely no football brain. Would I want someone like that making crucial decisions for my club? Not a chance. Would I want him anywhere near impressionable players? Never

Add to all that the fact that he's now got a record of abject failure as a manager and I'd say the only people who would touch him now are A. Clubs in desperate need of money and therefore media attention and B. Women he pays
