I got halfway in, but if it hasn’t yet come to light after 15 pages that @tomaiba is a Jordan Peterson/Joe Rogan fan, that’s a lot of time wasted.

Looking fwd to fans of the above telling me why they’re amazing cos they “ask questions” or advise we make our beds on a morning….

There's days gone by when folk would come on here fishing with a hook and a piece of string other times theyve used a pole ...
But I never thought I'd see the day someone came on here and sailed straight through with a trawler.....
As Nemo said....Dad I've got this ....swim the other way.....

I started reading the thread, but lost interest... I’ll try to attempt to answer the question though, on the assumption you want and answer unless the purpose of the thread was to make a point?

I’ve never used the term ‘woke’ and I think it’s a stupid word to use as an insult given it has an actual dictionary definition that is complimentary.

However, when ‘woke’ is used as an insult, my understanding is that is not meant to describe someone who is ‘alert to injustice in society, especially racism’. I think it is generally meant to describe a certain type of ‘social liberal’. For example, one who cares more about being seen to be socially liberal to gain a certain degree of popularity (typically online) rather than actually supporting liberal causes through meaningful actions (so called ‘virtue signalling’). Alternatively, someone who has gone full circle and has become quite illiberal and authoritarian. Someone who is so intolerant of any opposing view that they seek to shut down debate by fostering a toxic culture of deplatforming.

That’s my interpretation of what most people who use the term as an insult believe it to mean. Of course, many will disagree with the definition, and as I say I think it’s silly to use a word that’s already has a dictionary definition. However, the meanings of words will always evolve. I thought a gammon was something you ate?

I wouldn't say "fan" I barely watch either. Nice attempt at labeling and gas lighting by people here though. I dislike one group on the left and therefor I must be a Trump/Peterson/Rogan/Whoever else fan when in reality I'm not.. Your brains just can't process having shades of grey and a middle ground.

Shoutout @blivy for a rational comment above this one. I basically agree with him, I never use the word "woke" as an insult and by definition I'm woke too. I just see a lot of problems in the whole woke culture side of things which in many ways is anti-liberal and highly authoritarian like he said. Outstanding comment.
The folks on here proved how authoritarian they are when they literally couldn't understand why I said I defend peoples rights to do things I don't like.. It blew their minds.

    Thank you for your comments.
I stand by everything I have posted on here and it's good to see so many share the same views and values. As you say, it's obvious others twist the meaning of the word and use it as an insult simply to suit their own interpretation and agenda. When these opinions are then shared, for me, it's up to those getting tarnished by 'woke' to stand their ground show why they hold their principles. It's not unusual to see opponents then start with more insults, especially personal ones, and that has been clearly shown on this thread.

I think ‘woke’ as an insult is tossed around far too liberally (pardon the pun). However, I don’t think those at the extreme end of the ‘woke’ spectrum (where it’s definition is that set out above) have anything to be particularly proud of, as your post would suggest.

It’s disingenuous, hypocritical and an insult to those who are taking meaningful action to tackle social inequalities.

I guess the football equivalent might be a glory supporting armchair fan who doesn’t tolerate opposition fans and has a chip on their shoulder because they “support” (though they don’t really) a big club.

As it was I who started the thread, do my views, now and throughout my time on the BBS, lead you to believe it's an accurate assessment of me?

**** me ive got five pages into this thread and given up.

Tomaiba - I say this as a (what i like to think) generally tolerant and non judgemental person, shut the **** up you absolute crank.

You are repeatedly conflating people against fascism with what you say is an organised terrorist group - Antifa. Not one person on here has condoned any violence, nor has anyone suggested that having anti fascist views leads them to join some radical violent club.

    But we’re all racists…

The problem in the world is a lot of people believing the right wing propaganda that is spouted. You’re the problem.

Certainly not. As I said above, I haven’t read the whole thread and thus I’m not fully aware of your views on this issue. However, the impression I have of you is that you are level headed and sensible.

If you have been called woke, I suspect it is one of those occasions where it has been used too liberally as an insult.

Thank you. I believe our short conversation has been an excellent example of how to discuss an issue respectfully, without the need to hurl personal insults around.
I look forward to us having similar discussions in the future.

I respect people on here for not being old racist white men, like good for you. The problem is when someone criticizes something on the left, people here just instantly throw out assumptions (Hitler/Trump/Rogan/Jordan Peterson) and that's wrong and needs to stop.

According to this whole thread Ricky Gervais is a far right winger. Dave Chapelle is a far right winger. Countless politicians, comedians, leftist political analysts all just labelled far right because they see problems with ANTIFA and woke culture.

People on here saying they're proud to be called woke is one thing, but they aren't actually tolerant.

Perhaps I should become self righteous, intolerant, condescending and start accusing people of being ignorant, thick, stupid & racist? Then, when people react to the personal abuse, play the victim. I'm more than happy to be judged by my peers on here, or elsewhere.

I’ll tell you something. It takes balls, or a complete lack of self-awareness, to whack an image on this thread defining the word ‘sanctimonious’ given how sanctimonious you clearly are.

Everyone can decide for themselves which applies.
