I understand why it was done as a one off with the quick turnaround between seasons. I just don't want it to be like other sports being allowed to change so many players. Even better when I first started watching us and you only had three subs.

This could be a load of b*llocks, but I thought I’d read that UEFA had given the go ahead for five subs to carry on for the rest of this year, and it was down to each league to decide whether to go for three or five.

Making me feel old now.. when I first started watching football there was only one sub on the bench. The matchday squad was 12 players lol :)

I win the prize, when i started watching there were no subs !!!! mins you all the injured players used to move to the flanks out of the way unless they were that bad & had to be stretchered off, lol

There were no subs when I started watching. Remember Tony Leighton being taken out by the Man U goalie and Barnsley playing with 10 men for most of the match.

5 makes sense. Give teams a chance to blood homegrown players. That's what we have done.

Apart from anything else with five subs it gives the paying spectators a better show. No longer do we have to watch someone trudging around or playing poorly simply because all the subs have been used

Agree, it allows for more and continued intensity. Also, reduces the risk of fatigue related injuries

5 subs improves the squad by giving more chances to more players, keeps more players happy giving gane time, less injuries by rotating players, more exciting keeping the tempo up

Luxury. When I started watching, they had the goalie plus just five players, each of whom had to fill two positions simultaneously. Players could only be substituted by themselves and at th'end o' t'match had to clear t'pitch wi' their tongues.

And you tell that to the kids these days and they won't believe you....

Towards the end of the season Val stopped using all 5 subs was often 2-3 per game.

If it's making you feel old, spare a thought for me. When I started watching football, there were no subs. I don't think they had even been thought about.
