Don’t really think it’s a good move, their fans will soon get fed up of vertical football unless of course he changes his approach.Good luck V and thanks for last season

West Brom apparently refused to pay Appleton's release clause (in the region of 700k) and moved on. Had they paid it, he'd have probably been interested in talking to them.

    Looks like its happening.
Personal terms agreed. Just the compensation package.

Can no longer get odds on Skybet for next WBA manager.

Do you realise what you've just typed? This is the same Michael Appleton that absolutely bombed at Portsmouth, was given a chance by Blackpool, and left them after 65 days for Blackburn.

So WBA won't pay £700k for their first choice for new manager but will pay £2 million for their second choice that makes no sense, unless BFC have caved in and accepted a fee of less than £700k for VI.

BBC reporting compensation clause met and announcement likely within 48 hours.

It seems the person responsible for finding a new head coach was bumped out of the way, CEO took over responsibility and thats when Ismael became preferred candidate.

While accepting the reality of our situation does no one else think its pretty crap of Valerien to stay with us for just 9 months whatever his contract allows? I certainly do think that and if he goes to West Brom he doesn't go with my best wishes however good the last season was.

    Its a £2million release clause.

This would not have been triggered by offering £700k.

So once again we have to search out another rough diamond and polish it for someone else to benefit and at the same time as the guy tasked with making that search is about to bugger off too. Only at bloody Barnsley FC what a mess after such a wonderful season.

We’ve just had a season where we overachieved every fan’s expectation by a country mile. There’s also been gestures where he appears as a very decent man. He definitely goes with my well wishes.

He doesn't stay long at any club he has managed.
We get £2million and go again.
We also got a large amount for Struber.

The amount of the release clause maybe £2 million that doesn't stop BFC accepting less and still letting him go

    This is the alleged model.

Find young and hungry coaches/execs/players. Hope they work out. If they succeed, we can't afford to pay them their worth, but competitors can... so they move on. If they fail, we crystalize losses, waste wages. Break even(ish). Hopefully don't get relegated. Repeat to fade.

One thing is for certain is that we, the fans, will not be told the final sum of money of the compensation. Nominal fee time coming up.

I'd have loved VI to stay for one more season, but realistically it was always going to be unlikely, given last year's success.

I'm fairly sure candidates for his replacement will have been identified.

A bit ironic that when the majority of fans finally get to cheer big Val he'll be sat in the away dug out !!!

I agree. I didn't like his style of football but, under him the club transformed from facing a relegation battle to one of our best ever league placings. We've never had the financial clout to hold on to players or managers like him. He leaves us with a squad that should compete next season and with the club's profile raised. That's not an indication of a club that's failing or in trouble.

But they had him ahead of Val and now having to double the compensation. That doesn't make sense!

Taking the reality of the business and operational strategies out of this, it's just fcu king demoralising for the fans. Year after year.

If we lose Val, the CEO and our skipper over the coming days and weeks, no amount of objectivity is going to change the fact that it sucks and is hard for fans to have much cause for optimism. Over 10k season ticket holders off the back of a pandemic and the rug is being whipped out from under us yet again.
