Think about the employees of Barnsley FC like you think about your job. I'mma triple your wages to do the same job with better colleagues and greater recognition. How loyal are tha?

Whilst all clubs like to peddle a narrative of "look how much being at our club means to X player or Y manager" through video clips of players kissing a badge or enthusiastically embracing at full time - and very occasionally it might be true - the reality is that that is just marketing guff and the chance to increase one's wages and profile will almost always Trump "how much it means".

Any whatabouterry-exceptions you might hit me with just prove the rule.

Same applies to Dane, though as I've said elsewhere, I think it's mental to lament office staff moving jobs. Good for him.

Very difficult to achieve a big change in a short period though leythtyke - Bartley (30), Phillips (30), Livermore (31), Sawyers (29), Ajayi (28) - all key players who I'd suggest wouldn't be ideally suited to it but who are also likely to be some of their best paid players. Moving them on wouldn't be easy as PL clubs won't want them and championship clubs can't afford them. So the choice left to WBA is to buy younger and more energetic replacements and leave this lot in the reserves - don't think WBA have the money to take that approach either.

Maybe. But I would be surprised if we didn't see at least 1 or 2 of our better players follow him there.

Man leaving a job to do the same job somewhere else for more money. Head coaches have long been a commodity. I want him to stay but there is no point getting upset about his departure.

Right I wasn't suggesting that WBA had offered the 2 million and then said they'd give us less and we'd agreed.
I was pointing out that the clause is not a it's 2 million or he doesn't go clause it's a 2 million and we can't stop him officially taking to you clause the fact remains a club could roll up with an offer below the clause and the club could under certain circumstances still allow the manager to talk to another club officially.

Agree with all of this. Not sure what good "strategy" involves having to rebuild every year. At some point, the owners of the club will have to come up with a plan that gets us to a position where staff will want to stay. As it is, they're about to employ their 3rd CEO, and 6th head coach. They've been here three and a half seasons.

We're now going to have another season where a new coach comes in, because he likes to play a "press", but his general footballing philosophies could be poles apart from Ismael. We might end up with someone who plays a back 4, leaving us with an excess of centre halves, or only 1 or 2 up front, which will make the however many forwards in the squad seem.

I understand the argument that Ismael wouldn't have come, if it weren't for the release clause. But I'm starting to wonder if that would be such a bad thing. As good as last season was, chances are, that will be flash in the pan now. Maybe we're better finding a coach who's not looking to leave at the first opportunity? Short term, the appointment might not be as high quality, but could build something better longer term.

Let's face it, big Val is/was the main draw for players to come to this club on the back of what he achieved last season, so the players we have got left who are any good will either follow him or look for a better deal, why would they risk staying at Barnsley with a new manager coming in and all the upheaval that brings with it? - far simpler and more profitable to secure a deal with a new club -

Thats the problem, last season's progression could be lost over night if we're not careful.

    Agree with that (unsurprisingly).

I was thinking about the issue of a change in coach earlier and just that. There's a significant transition every time as each coach will have their own formation and philosophy. If we had someone come in playing 4-5-1 we've an abundance of forwards and centre halves who just aren't going to get game time. And we'd need to bring in midfielders while trying to encourage bids for players that we then need to move on, or bring in revenue to stay afloat.

I don't think it's so much that Ismael is about to depart, its that much of the coaching staff and two key parts of the admin functions are seemingly departing too. Add on top of that a few players which we've pretty much factored in and you're left with having to start largely from scratch again.

I wasn't a fan of the style of Ismael, but I could see he was a winner and a good coach. But to have to go though this amount of change so frequently and all at the same time is to coin a phrase... crazy.

But what if your good lady had taken you from being a no hoper to the brink of being a top class premier league stud in less than a year , you might then be showing a bit of gratitude, lol

Torygraph article suggesting Ismael being named at West Brom is now a formality.

We might get just one article to announce the exodus of coaches and executives.

Not that @rsed tbh. Players and managers and indeed CEOs come and go, would I prefer it if they didnt.... dam right if their good, but this is unfortunatley part and parcel of supporting our club, its same as it ever was. Unless we start getting 20k a match or the club moves down south or billionaires (who spend money) spend money, it will always be like this.
