Meanwhile back in the real world the fixtures are out tomorrow the 24th . Any preferences for anyone ? Blackpool in summer would be nice for those able to go. From a selfish point of view midweek games darn sarf before October would mean I could get to them before I retire on 8th Oct as it's midweek games only until then
League Cup draw later in the day as well. I'm going all retro and saying that it will be Hartlepool United at home first round. We often seemed to get them or Halifax in the sixties and beyond. Speaking of the Monkey Hangers I had a quick look on YouTube yesterday and there is a 40 minute highlights feature of their Play Off final there, although it belongs to Torquay's TV service. I've never seen so many penalty misses in a shootout before. It brought back to mind the old saying at Oakwell prior to the Clarke era - "They don't want to go up". It certainly looked that way until they started scoring some. Spectacular equaliser from the Torquay keeper as well, going up for a cross into the box. PS Not really fair on the Pool fans having to travel nearly 300 miles down to Bristol when Torquay had less than a hundred miles to travel. Good result for the northern fans though in the end.
Ive brought a season ticket but I cant say I am honestly bothered one bit about the forthcoming season especially while these pointless restrictions remain in place. Football for me is more than watching the game. Its a social occasion. The current Guidance ruins that.
Let's hope the restrictions are ended by the time the season starts. I've rebooked my seat as well but might miss the first month or two anyway as I've got a Spanish trip planned for early July with no definite date for my return. (Unless the government do another rearranging of the goalposts of course!).
Remember it well , split up with the ex wife that day, took the eldest lad ,it was quite memorable that day /year with one thing and another.
For varous reasons /i will miss the first 2 games so hoping for somthimg like Middlesbououhg away and a boring first home game someone like Coventry and get it out of the way. Probably find its Bornemouth away and Blunts at home
So long as the opening fixture is Barnsley v Somebody, I'll be happy. We've spent enough time away from Oakwell.
It could be because their appeal against being forced to spend so much time at the bottom of the league hasn’t reached its conclusion yet. It’s just inhuman to subject such a MAGNIFICENT CLUB to Third Division football.
Agree not fair on the Pools fans - but look at the distances my lot had to travel to play their first Round Euro matches. Switzerland travelling even more mileage - Switz to Azerbaijan - Azer. to Rome - from Rome back to Azer. -- (good to see them qualifying.)
I don't think any matches were scheduled in Wales - possibly because Hampden and Wembley were venues in the early stages.
