Best football I’ve seen since Clarke saw us get promoted to the Prem, the next best got us to the championship play off final, the next best saw us slay league one. I’d take any of that over Ismaels vertical football.

 

I understand the complaints that some had about the style of play. Personally I was happy to accept it for the results that we achieved doing it and for the fact that perhaps for the first time since I've been supporting, other teams feared playing us and changed their style to nullify us. I loved the fact that there was no inferiority complex, no matter the size of the club or the quality of the players we were prepared to go toe-to-toe and very often were successful. It created a belief in the team that we are good enough. If VI has a legacy here I hope it's that - that we continue to disrespect tradition, perceived quality, size of budget, size of support etc and retain the belief that we deserve to be in the Championship and will have an aggressive intent in every game.

 

I thought Hunters team were way better than Clarke’s tbh.

 

Absolutely gutted tbh, but at the same time not surprised at all, money talks, a team that on paper as got a better chance of returning to the top flight than we have, I now fear him returning for Helik and Styles, the next manager will have to fit in with the clubs philosophy and style so hopefully a like for like manager and hopefully not too much of a difference, however losing styles and Helik are not as easily exchanged for like for like unless you pay ££££££££££, the main thing for me was not as much the manager but hanging onto our players

 

We would need to have some brass in pocket to attract Wilder.

 

Glad he’s gone now tbh, better than it festering on, even if it had gone wrong things wouldn’t have been the same.

2 million to pay towards the compensation of our next manager If we've got any sense we'll put a bit in the way of Mowatt as well. Losing a manager, captain , CEO and accompanying staff all in one go is a big blow otherwise .

If Norwich and Brentford keep hold of their managers I'd like to look at how they manage that. Yes they've obviously more money than us but both play attractive football which surely should have seen some clubs higher up the food chain being interested in them?

6 weeks till new season starts, I wager we will be at least 4 weeks before we see any new manager in. So that will also screw up our transfer regime.

 

We all knew that with the success we had under VI that he would be off sooner or later. I’m sure there’s a German or Austrian reserve team coach somewhere that will fit the bill. There’s always change as a Barnsley fan. You have to accept it and move on. If you haven’t noticed before you really haven’t been paying attention.

No doubt our faithful CEO will be along soon to let us know what's happening.....oh wait a minute

 

I really liked Big Val. Not for the results, but mainly because of him as a bloke. He united everyone, he fostered a real culture of togetherness that I'd not seen under previous coaches. Everyone - to him - was important. You had to buy into it though. He didn't suffer fools. And of course, I loved his aggressive demands of his players, who gave him absolutely everything. Was the football always enjoyable to watch? No, it wasn't. But it was effective and we were a couple of decent refereeing decisions away from Wembley and a shot at the Premier League. He achieved so much in difficult circumstances, in such a short space of time.

I would envisage the football becoming a little more pleasing on the eye moving forward, but retaining our core principles. But who knows in this game?

It's never, ever dull being a Red.

 

Your talking about wilsons 1st spell, Bassett and stendel. Which in my life time are the only 3 coaches I've seen play consistently good football throughout the season.

Bassett had a massive budget compared to val mind. Players like dyer, higgy and shipperly would be well out of our price range in todays money.
