I went on an Irish sports forum after the game. A lot of them don't like us winning. The first thing they picked up on was the booing, calling us out for totally lacking class. It's how English fans are perceived and, to be honest, it's pretty close to the mark.

I’d have booed ours if I’d been there :)
Seriously though we should take a leaf out of our neighbours books and compile our own that actually says something about the country!
This anthem was composed for a narcissist German Monarch to blow smoke up his Arse.
There’ll always be an England would be ok with me with suitable lyrics that doesn’t involve smiting anyone or everyone .

Those nasty classless English fans. I'm glad the Irish fans would never do that.

    Oh hang on..

Booing a football rivals team sheet is hardly the same and on a different level to booing a nation’s anthem. Any-case, at Oakwell they don’t read the away team sheet anymore at the start of the game only Barnsley’s.

Look mate, you're flogging a dead horse, fans boo, fans sing, all over the world, and sometimes even get arrested, sleep well in the knowledge we've beaten Germany and are in the last 8 of a major tournament x

I’m certainly flogging a dead horse with you regarding the booing of a National anthem.

A couple of seasons ago. They announce the last reading of away team about 10 mins before kick off

‘Holier than thou’ for condemning the booing of a National anthem, you answered no to my question, so how can it be wearing thin?

Hoping for a bit of clas, courtesy and respect for others isn't holier than thou. It's just something that ought to be a common aspiration. The alternative is to sanction loutishness and selfishness. To excuse everything of a downward spiral that starts with booing etc. Where do you draw the line? Booing? Throwing the odd coin? A beer glass? Giving opposition fans a good kicking?
    Presumably not.
It's not hard to avoid booing another country's anthem, to wear a bit of cloth on your face occasionally. It really is so easy but hey, let the "lads" have a swill and do what they want.

But if we can't boo the knee and German national anthem, meanwhile singing about the Luftwaffe and RAF, and ultimately about two world wars and a world cup, what else do we have to sing about?

I can't believe it's suggested that it's somehow unpatriotic to condemn behaviour like this.
I'm as patriotic as any and for that reason I want others to respect my country not view it as infested by hooligans, louts and uneducated bigots.
I'd rather when they think of England think of the country that stood up for their freedom, of Brunel, Shakespeare, Bobby Moore not Tommy Robinson, Heysel, european cities getting trashed by drunken yobs.
It shouldn't be too much to ask.

Whilst I completely agree ...it's not unique, my Hungarian friend attended the game with Germany and he told me a lot of the German fans were totally disrespectful to the Hungarians.

Genuinely thought this was sarcasm until I read who wrote it.
