Second random thread of the morning, but interested in this one. Sum it up in a sentence or two.

I'm autistic, which means I struggled with communication and social cues growing up. When talking to my gran about social anxiety/difficulty conversing, she told me: "ask a question".

This advice took me from being a silent nodding head, to being involved in active conversations with my peers and gaining much-needed confidence. It was such a simple thing, but that one piece of advice improved my life drastically.

And now I ask you a question: what piece of advice stuck in your head and improved your life?

If you don't control your money, your money will control you.

My parents taught me to be money savvy from an early age. Not to the point of being stingy, but they wanted me to understand the value of money. They weren't tight-fisted, but they shopped around. They introduced me to the idea of saving, and managing your cash properly - a philosophy that's stuck with me all my life, and one which I like to think I've instilled in our kids too.

Mi Dad wasn’t at all religious (for which I also thank him) but he taught me to treat people the way I’d want to be treated.

Similar to the OP, but when I became a counsellor in a high school at a young age, I stressed that I had to find an answer or remedy to every difficulty the students were experiencing. Someone I worked with told me that most of the time people just want to be listened to, and that by asking them questions they can often work things out for themselves. That was pretty revolutionary for me at 25.
