Here’s hoping his replacement is lined up, Scott Fraser? Flynn Downes? Marcondes? Either way we need some more depth in midfield.
I don’t feel doom and gloom and looking forward to the new ‘regime’ Hopefully Paul Conway will fill the void of the CEO situation (if as reported Dane goes/has gone) Last season’s achievements was always going to be a tough act to follow even if Val, Mowatt and Dane all stayed.
In the past the board have had somebody lined up to off set the disappointment. Ala Woodrow for Bradshaw.
Seems a petty thing to include. I'd rather we didn't have this cheap point scoring in official communications.
I'm not sure it was a dig, just an effort to express to fans that they did their best to keep him here.
Precisely. We all know we can't compete with clubs who have parachute payments, and those who don't have financial prudence in their vocabulary, particularly for someone who is a free agent.
It may not have been a dig, but it wasn't required. So many ways that could have been worded that didn't make it sound a little bitter.
Cannot ask for more from the club than to offer him terms nobody has been ever offered. He ran his contract down (which he's entitled to) so we got bugger all for him, so let's not wish him too much luck. We should have sold him last summer when we forced the extension. It’s sloppy to allow a key player to go for naff all. New heroes will be made and the club survives as it did in the past when we lost even better players. No need to mourn. Looking forward to getting behind whoever we bring in to replace him.
There was absolutely no need to mention the "best offer in the history of the club" bit. It's a divisive comment and just not needed. Have a bit of class, wish him well, say sadly we were unable to come to an agreement and thank you for your service. Simple.
"the most lucrative deal ever offered to a reds player". John Hendrie once said on that Late Kick Off show that used to come on, that he was on £12k a week in the PL.
This is why the statement from the club lacks class because it lends sway to debates about people's salaries.
No it’s not, fans will want to know how much we tried to keep him, if the club want to communicate that, so be it. I don’t see any disrespect at all. We wanted him to stay, he wanted to leave., he left. We move on
