hope not, always think centre halves or midfielders make the best captains, might not even be someone at the club, we might nick an inspirational player off somebody else

Sad day, but not hardly surprising news.

Thanks for all the hard work especially as captain Alex. All the best in the future

Regarding running the contract down - I'd rather we did this than sold him for peanuts in January as we've done previously.

It meant that we had a proper go at the playoffs this time round, instead of falling away like in the spring of 2017.

I'm just glad he's gone now. This saga has rumbled on for too long. He was a hard worker and for that he deserves thanks. Is he replaceable? Definitely.

The club saying he was offered Barnsley FC highest every offer doesn't mean anything really
firstly nobody knows how much we pay are players and secondly out highest ever offer if that is true may be a insulting offer to Alex in his position of being free agent.

if his transfer value is say 3 million you would be talking minimum 20,000 a week over 3 years 30,000 over 2
transfer value 6 million double those figures or add or subtract to those figures on what his transfer valuation is.
also based on buying another player his wages etc.

i would suspect not knowing but a rough guess our highest offer is probably at least half and maybe a lot more than what the going rate for a player in his position would expect to be offered at a minimum.
In other words unless he has some special reasons for wanting to stay here he would have to be some sort of F##king idiot to sign a new contract.

I didn't see it as a parting shot its just letting fans know the club tried to keep him

I've noted in numerous posts my reasoning. Having read it multiple times, I stand by what I've posted.

As above; I see it as simply to try to head off the fans who assume we ‘never try hard enough’ to keep people.

Not that I think it’ll help.

They shouldn't have said they offered him the best deal in bfc history then we could have said "we didn't try hard enough"

Can't fault his commitment to the club, he's seen his contract out which is fair enough. I think we can do better tho and we need better if we are to move on.
