There will be confidentiality clauses in his move. CEOs are generally very restricted in terms of information obtained from one entity and used by another.

No great loss, he was called a mute on here for most of his time at Oakwell. Same lots now up in arms, you can't make it up.

    Thanks for Dike.

Looks like he was just growing into the role during last season, and as you say Dike was a great move.

Would that apply even to fixed term contracts? Hopefully there will have been something in there for a period beyond the contract. Not sure how it would be enforced though.

Can’t help but feel the owners have taken their eye off the ball with the club to lose a ceo, club secretary and head coach at the same time.

What a depressing week or so.

Still, all part of the cycle of being a Barnsley fan - plenty of time for whoever's left to cheer us all up.

Makes a bit of a mockery of his last interview, don’t you think?

Forgive me if I treat anything our club puts out with a pinch of salt going forward.

While I think the club could've and probably should've done more to avoid all this. I'm still putting Murphy and Ismael in the snake category.

I find it hard to believe he didn't know that he was off when he gave that interview

This is the biggest concern isn,t it, why can no one wait to get to the exit door, i know we are a relatively small club but surely we can bush our finances a little more and at least attempt to compete..

Restrictive covenants have become more restricted in recent years as to what they can limit, and that's within permanent employment contracts. I doubt that the additional complication of a known termination date will do anything to improve this.

Having them and being able to effectively enforce them are two different matters though, and a long notice period with the ability to impose gardening leave is probably the most effective option available. This contract looks to have had neither in place, given that he's expected to take up the Forest role next week.

Most other clubs, at least all of the sane ones, would've offered Ismael a new contract with increased pay with the release clause pushed back to the end of next season, months ago. Given the club were happy to point out the extent of the offer made to Mowatt (in relation to every other contract ever given out by the club), I'm assuming no offer was ever made to the coach. Despite massively exceeding expectations.

Get ready for the statement he was offered the highest ever salary for a CEO in the history of the club and turned it down.

On an employment law front, if out of contract then it is extremely difficult/impossible to enforce restrictive terms post the expiry of the contract.

He definitely will have known his own contract was due to expire in a matter of weeks. For that to have literally been the last interview he gave, is quite remarkable really.
