I personally don’t have a problem with the club saying “most lucrative”. I think it’s important for fans to know we pushed as far as we could financially to keep him. Otherwise there would be accusations that we hadn’t.
Bugger! Disappointing if not surprising. He's 26 years old so not unreasonably wants a chance at a bigger Club with more ambition. He's got that. Fair play to him and thanks for all his wonderful efforts in the past.
If the club offered him record wages then I am pleased that he turned it down because that could have set a precedent when wanting to extend anyone else`s contract or fetching in an experienced player. Our way of doing things is buying young on low wages and turning them into a saleable asset. Wish Alex well and he is moving to be with a guy who has shown him that he believes in him and vice versa, He has been a joy to watch and would also thank him for the graft he put into games setting an example to team mates like a captain should do, instead of the shouty pointy types. Big booits to fill lets hope the next contestant gives as much or exceeds.
I judge players on what they did in their time at the club. After a shaky start he transitioned into captain material. I'm sad he's leaving, but totally get why he is. Time for new heroes. We are Barnsley. Let's beat WBA next season at Oakwell, after giving him a warm reception.
New challenge aka more cash. Empty words really. When did this all start with players trying to suck up when they leave a club? It never used to happen.
In your opinion, Of course it’ll be more cash, doesn’t mean to say he can’t thank people he’s leaving behind and say how he’s appreciated them. He’ll have some great and fond memories of his time at our club, the promotion, the ‘Great Escape’ reaching the Championship play offs in a team that hardly knew when it was beaten, which he was Captain of. There’s nothing empty about that. When I left work I made sure all my former colleagues knew how much I appreciated working with ( most) of them. I’m truly glad I was able to communicate that to them, I would’ve hated to have just left
Personally I see nothing disrespectful or bitter in the club's statement. Whether people agree with them including that sentence or not I don't think for one second it was done to slag mowatt off and was just there to tell us that they tried their best to keep him. I do have a slight issue with its inclusion personally but not for that reason. As for Alex himself, I believe he's always given his all for us and even when a large section of fans were saying how bad he was 12 months ago and how we needed to get shut he never stopped trying and proved them completely wrong the moment the berk left and let him show us what we all knew he could do. Good luck to the lad, he's earned his right to leave
