    Did he have a paper round? And did he have jobs similar to working as a glass collector on Wellington Street and later work at either Ardsley House or Tankersley Manor as a pot washer or waiter? Right of passage for most Barnsley folk.

    Ardsley House veteran here.

    Once walked in on the manager spooning clotted cream out the tub with his hands and eating it at 3AM in the walk in fridge.

    Also got propositioned by an elderly American man and hit a bat with a drinks tray when it was swooping for punters' heads in the lounge bar.

    Great place.

    Try taking a tray to the head whilst singing mule train lol ....little tip.make sure its a light weight metal tray....just wished I'd listened to my own advice.....as I picked myself up off the floor.....lol

    Used to play there on the regular with Dearne Big Band, great memories :) The cream-loving manager's initials weren't CR by any chance?
