If Mr Schopp is looking for a new style of play for the coming season can I suggest we copy the Italians, would be very happy with that style (also think we are suited to it). Best team in the Euros for me. Great to watch. High Energy Incredible stamina High press (when required) but constant pressure on the player with the ball regardless of where on the pitch. Fast transition from defence to attack (with lots of players committed). No first time lumping it into forward areas. 'Valerian plus' if you will.
completely agree. Id live to see us modwl ourselves on Italy 2021. Magnificent. Pace. Intent. Aggression.
Not planning to win the Euros, just a top half Championship finish We have the ability to press already. (best in class) We have the stamina (best in class) Need to work on: cutting out aimless punts quick transitions (with players committed) players carrying the ball (be brave) Really hope we don't lose the high energy we have. Spain are obviously a good team, but I find them a bit boring to watch. Too much side to side & backwards Italy on the other hand ... as soon as they get possession the entire team sets off towards goal like they're all being bleep tested & none of the players seem to be afraid to carry the ball.
I was thinking exactly the same thing. So good to watch and I think it's a style which would definitely suit our existing squad.
We just need the players that can do it and sadly right now we haven't. I think the answer lies in the Italian team's total monetary value compared with us. Maybe a few more zeros on the end of the figure.
When first linked to him, read an article that described his style as that without a high press though.
I’ve really enjoyed watching Italy. I generally find International football pretty boring, with a lot of teams setting up not to lose. To much side to side tippy tappy stuff. Not this team though. They play with purpose & intent. I also like the fact that Mancini isn’t picking players from just the top few clubs, a la Spinazzola and rightly so. Up until he got stretchered off he has had a blinding tournament. They’ve been a breath of fresh air.
Albeit to a lower skill level of course , some of our attacking play last season was not a million miles away from what Italy are doing. Many times last season, we made fast starts in games where we were able to overload coming forward and particularly coming down the right get some dangerous balls across . The trick is having enough quality to take advantage of these spells and get in front . Then the style can adapt to more game management and look to attack more on the counter . As we all know what we really need to get better at is using the midfield more and being less direct, although I still think we should go direct at times as we will never have the required quality to play out from the back for the entire game . With some tweaks in system and personnel , we might not be far off being a team who can at least compete in the top half of the league again.
Our style will be counter attacking which will have to mean fast transitions, accurate passing, using width and great running off the ball. It's the accurate passing that worries me. Didn't see much of that last season, partly due to the vertical football. However, we have a new coach, new ideas, new training methods. The players should really be up for this - a chance to play a more pleasing style of football. Only time will tell if it turns out to be more effective than the prevoius style. I'm niavely excited at what may come!
Agree, but why no No mention of the cheating and shithousery, is it because you’d accept it or are you simply mentioning their finer points?
Whatever we play, if we try to p155 about tippy-tappy at the back. We may start this season like we did last
