I just outlined my own views and what Im doing. As far as I'm aware the jabs protect to a point but you can still have covid after being jabbed. An example of a 'nob' I was thinking of would be someone who knows they're under the weather yet because they dont have any restriction they will go out into public places potentially infecting other people. Johnson has opened society up to that kind of person.
Once again, common decency would suggest that until everyone is vaccinated you continue to look after the health of others.
Ahh. You're quoting Whitty. Did he not also say that he would continue to wear masks in certain situations. There are more than kids yet to be vaccinated. The chances of you doing someone damage are maybe small but eventually the odds mean someone will get unlucky thanks to a selfish t**t who couldn't wear a mask for a couple of months longer. You're literally a ticking time bomb.
From 19th july no one can make me wear a mask. I dont like wearing it so Im not going to. The only reason I ever wore it was to gain access or avoid a fine. Its as simple as that
So you fully admit you don't give a toss about anyone's health. And never have at any point during this pandemic. Well, we knew that anyway but thanks for putting it so succinctly.
That’s social media for you. You don’t tend to hear anywhere near as much from people who don’t have a strong opinion either way. Gives the impression there’s one group who want to be locked down until next year because there might be 5% excess deaths, and another group who think being asked to wear a face mask in certain places at certain times to protect others is a serious infringement on their civil liberty. If you want a understand the view of the nation, don’t use social media as a barometer.
Important points that I took from the briefing: SAGE’s view is that we’re now probably at a point where continuing lockdown would only delay some deaths and not prevent them. What I assume Whitty/Vallance meant from this is that there’s not many unvaccinated people left that still want vaccinating (certainly not in the susceptible ages groups), and the gains we make from waiting whilst we vaccinate more people are now marginal. When we open up, there’s a strong chance that those who haven’t been vaccinated will catch it, whether that’s now or in a months time, or two months time. Their view seemed to be that it’s better to do it during the summer for a couple of reasons: 1) the rate of increase should be lower because people spend more time outside 2) there’s less pressure on the NHS at this time. Seems like we’ve pretty much protected the population as well as we are able to. Whilst holding off while we vaccinate more might have some marginal benefits, it’s likely the benefits would be offset by the detrimental impact of opening up as we approach winter.
What utterly bizarre logic, to describe normality as a ‘trial’ and an ‘experiment’ yet to regard an unprecedented lockdown as some sort of default state. If anything shows the success the people like Michie have had in twisting our sense of what is normal and proportionate then it’s right here. Red Rain, I do t know how old you are but I’m guessing you and your wife probably don’t have a statistical expectation of a huge number of quality life years ahead of you. Please, please don’t waste any more of them cowering away. I assume you’re fully vaccinated. Trust the science, and allow yourself some joy. Life truly is too bloody short.
My concern was not for myself. My concern was for the welfare of others who might be put in danger if I pursued my own selfish aims. My concern was particularly for the welfare of my nearest and dearest. There might be a point in risking their welfare if I could trust that those who attend Oakwell will behave with the restraint and consideration for others that I would have exercised, but this thread made it clear that it was unlikely. In those circumstances, and given my wish to protect my family, I must continue to stay away, unfortunately. We will all make our own decisions on the basis of our personal circumstances.
A 5 page thread named ‘freedom’ celebrating not having to be oppressed into protecting other people with a mild inconvenience at the same time as a bill gets passed preventing the right to protest is a real barometer into how far down the rabbit hole we are.
