Eternally grateful to Michael Solbauer. If he hadn't arrived at Oakwell a couple of years back we'd have gone down and the trajectory of the club would be a lot less rosy than it currently is. Best wishes to him in the rest of his career.
Top player. Catalyst for a lot of the good things that have happened on the pitch last 18 months, He'll be missed.
When he returns he'll only have a year left and leave for naff all. The same with Schmidt. Why not just take the hit unless the other club are paying the wages?
I'm guessing that part of the salaries will be paid, and they probably count as an asset on the balance sheet while still under contract. If Thomas has a good start to the season, he might attract interest from clubs in January.
Because if they has a great season in League 2/Denmark, someone may want to buy them next summer, or we might have an option to trigger an extension in his contract and give them another chance.
Makes for a heavily inflated squad list when you decide to bring in players that will be troubling the scorers.
Not much benefit to it really. Especially not from an accounts aspect; we’d be writing off an asset and paying up two years worth of wages in the process. He’d be daft to accept his contract being written off when he’s clearly not going to get a similar wage elsewhere, based on recent form, so we’d be paying up nearly all of his contract. No doubt Bristol Rovers will be paying some form of contribution to his wages. It seems unlikely, but he might have an amazing season and we attract bids for him next summer.
Those two players will have cost us in the region of £1.5-2.0million between them. I still believe that Schmidt will come good if a team plays to his strengths, and Thomas might do if he hopefully gets though his personal troubles. It's a lot of cash for us to write off without giving them every chance to come good or at least help us recoup some of it.
Hope he is able to kick on and I wish him the very best. Just a bit torn about him going to play for Joey Barton of all people.
