I wish him good luck and thank him for his contribution during his time at Barnsley. Imo he was the key piece of the jigsaw during our great escape. It would've been great to get him onto the pitch so that we could thank and say goodbye to him before a game. I hope perhaps he'll be able to attend at some time in the future and we can do that.
Gutted I never saw him play in the flesh. We've lost a great leader. He would have been revered by the home crowd this season.
Good luck to him, family first as they say, just had had a quick Google of his new club, promoted last year to Bundesliga 2 and have a fantastic stadium, I wish him all the best
Good luck Sol and thanks for everything you've done since joining the club. Nothing is more important than family and Barnsley 's loss is Dynamo Dresden's gain!
Have seen loads of players come and go over the years, but am particularly disappointed about this news. Though if it’s a case of facing being just a benchwarmer whilst away from the family, you can understand why he would want the move. Think history will regard him highly alongside greats like Winnie and Macca. He’d be behind them and others in an all time Reds XI but his influence on the young players around him and on the team in general cannot be overstated, in my view. Without his steely professionalism and leadership, there’s no way we would have stayed up in the year of the greatest escape. His performance at Huddersfield last season was one of the finest defensive displays I’ve ever seen in over 55 years of watching the Reds. It will be interesting to see how those remaining will manage without that experience. Pace isn’t everything. Thanks Solly
So long Farewell Aufwiedersehn Adeiu Adeiu Adeiu To yieu ...and thank you for your commitment to Barnsley over the last 18 months
Saddened to see him leave but understand why its in both Michael and the clubs interest for him to move. I wish him well
Happy to see such sentiment being posted. Wish you all the best for the future Sole, your efforts have clearly been noted by both fans and the club
Good luck with your new club Michael! A true professional and a natural leader. If it wasn't for you we wouldn't be where we are now. Thanks for the memories!
Brilliant guy and the ultimate professional. We owe him this for what he’s done for us. All the best Sole!
He is one of the most professional players I've come across. He would do anything we asked, no matter what it was. He even got involved with the Inbetweeners skit we did in January. He was a real go-to guy. And aside from that, he is just thoroughly likeable. A nice bloke. Quiet, no ego but a deep thinker. Very clever fella. I'll miss him. But whilst I also valued what he did on the pitch for us in his brief time here (key to survival in 19/20), I think we should have enough in that position moving forward now. I don't think he was likely to get as much game time here this coming season, and so it absolutely makes sense for him to move closer to home, to be back with his young family and, to a very good club in Germany who are finally on the up and up. I will not miss his bone-crushing handshakes and high-fives. So lange mein freund!
All the best, turned it around for us, you were a really big player for the reds. Once a red always a red!
Sorry to see him go. You could see from his approach to playing that he was/is a very determined person. Good luck Solly.
