This wasn’t a title fight though? Due to there just being one organisation in UFC you get loads of high quality match ups that aren’t for belts and just for position. McGregor lost that first round but depending on the extent of that ankle injury there’s no reason he doesn’t come back to the same level. Poirier moves on to a bigger fight and potentially for the title.

I think he’ll be back at some point, whether or not he’ll be the same fighter remains to be seen. When he held the FW & LW belts, he was at his best for me. He rarely has any fights these days though and there are far better fighters out there. But, he sells out arenas & PPV events so he’s always gonna be in demand. If the fight wasn’t stopped I think Poirier wins easily anyway, as he would if they have a 4th fight.
