So Southgate, his boring brand of football nearly won, nearly.

Well, Gareth is your time as manager over?Your contribution to us is frankly like listening to an advert on a easily forgotton tv channel. Bland, dismissive, blah, blah, blah. Even in the dreadful aftermath interview moments after the final ended, you reverted to bland, processed, groomed unemotional comments. THIS, is what is wrong with football right now. They all go on coaching courses, players, managers, directors of football, commentators "don't answer any questions that you have not been pre-briefed on, DO NOT ADMIT LIABILITY."
"Do not speak from your heart".

And, of course, don't forget the next job depends on your tv performance.

Italy deserved to win, and I am actually pleased they did otherwise it justifies Southgates boring tippy tappy don't commit football. Resign now Southgate I'm totally bored with you and you are actually poor at what you paid for, but don't worry you can always be a commentator on tv. I really hope not.

Not Southgate's biggest fan myself, he's too negative. But he got us to our first final in 55 years. We nearly bloody won it, too. Calm down and give them a bit of credit. If we'd have won I'm sure there would have been some moaning that it was on the Euros and not the World Cup.

Try giving other some praise sometime, it doesn't make you any less of a man.

Am I missing something? I thought he'd got us to 3 semi finals in the 4 tournaments he's managed us for.

    Could be wrong like.

I can't agree with this at all. I don't agree with all his decisions and tactics but every time I've seen him speak he's conducted himself with a level of honesty, empathy and warmth which is rare for people in senior positions in any profession, let alone football. He's the figurehead of a young team which has clearly been encouraged to have an identity and offer opinions - look at Tyrone Mings yesterday - and I find that refreshing and worthy of praise regardless of what happens on the pitch.

And whilst I might not agree with all his selections, I can't ignore the fact that he has steered us to our first world cup semi since 1990 and had us a penalty shootout away from our first major honours since 66.

So in short, I find it absolutely laughable that you are calling for his head.

The FA need not look any further for his replacement !.
Absolutely support the manager and the camaraderie he as acheived with all these hungry young footballers.
I've watched loads of managers fail to acheive what he as succeded at.

Players like Shaw, Mings, Mount, Rice, Phillips, Bellingham, Foden, Grealish, Calvert-Lewin, White, Saka, James and Sancho all playing in their first international tournament. Yet got to the final. Players like Greenwood and TAA waiting in the wings.
Yep it's terrible.........Germany and Spain all tasted disappointment before winning tournaments.
The Italians had some very experienced players and we took em to penalties.

Bonkers viewpoint. Most successful manager since Alf Ramsay and you want him sacked.

I've just been reflecting on the tournament.
It as brought the best and the worst in football.
There as been many times I have had tears watching the young lads doing this country proud, also young John .
Gareth Southgate with his honesty and the letter he wrote.
I couldn't help but feel depressed when the scenes were being shown on sky TV at 2 pm ,fans climbing up lamp posts pissed and unruly and could only see this ending in tears and commented this to my Mrs.
The stories coming out of Wembley of fans fighting pissed and debauchery in the concourse.
It makes me ashamed to be a fan.
WTF is it that football attracts thes imbeciles that spoils it for the proper fans.
It so reminds me of the final against Millwall.
The Good the bad and the ******* ugly.

Fatalbert's take: DO NOT ADMIT LIABILITY

“That is my responsibility,” Southgate said. “I chose the guys to take the kicks."

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Southgate’s given me some of my best memories watching England.

Pleased that Italy won? Give your head a shake.

Admin, I think we need some new options in addition to "like", can we have "agree" and "shut up you miserable shitbag"?

On a BBS weighed down with far too much negativity in regards to England’s performance, this is the ultimate fishing post. Because there’s no way it can be serious.

I'm the first to admit to criticising Southgate. I think he's too negative and I also think he got it wrong second half on Sunday. However, he's proven himself a really good man manager. He has the balls to stick to his plan. He protects his players really well and obviously got a good team spirit going within the squad. He's also articulate and comes over as a genuine bloke. Criticise by all means but show a bit more respect eh?

I’ve been critical of Gareth. After the Scotland game, it was unavoidable. I have a more maverick idea, but know nowt about football, compared to Gareth. The conduct & personality of this team is the greatest achievement. That’s one shackle off the England leg. :)

Sorry lads, I like Southgate as a person and he's done ok as a manager but let's not forget that everyone has been saying we have the most glittering array of attacking flair in world football. There's players in there that have won World Cups and European Championships at youth level. He's blessed with some amazing attacking options and yet...he refuses to make full use of them.
I said earlier on in the tournament that those tactics would be vulnerable when we came up against a top drawer side. It takes that bit of something extra to win games like that. We had it, we had an Italy team not as good as they were hyped on the ropes after 20 minutes and voluntarily let them off the hook.
I take the point that this was the first major tournament for some of these lads so I'll cut him some slack but if we want to dominate in international football he HAS to make use of the talent he has. Starting games with just one game changer on the pitch is beyond cautious but even that was good enough until he allowed or told our wing backs to drop into defensive mode. That's a game we could and should have won.
