I think he's just acknowledging that there's interest in him, and why wouldn't there be, he's arguably the best centre half in the Championship.

Markus Schopp said there wasn't any interest in Helik or Styles specifically when asked by Radio Sheffield. But I wasn't sure whether he was dismissing there was interest, or whether he was saying he was unaware of any interest.

If I'm honest, I'd fully expect Helik to leave this summer. He was our stand out player last season. But with there being 2 years left on his deal, I would hope we at least get a fair deal.

Great interview that and I really hope he stays with us for next season. If he has to go, and who would blame him if a higher grade European side came in for him, I presume we will make a lot of money on him.

Top player, top professional. We are lucky to have him.

If we got £5m for Mawson, we should be asking £7m+ for Helik

I would love to say I read it in Polish but the system automatically translates it for you. If no one has done it by morning I’ll post it for you. Can’t do it now

Helik: – After the Euro there is an atmosphere of great

What was the atmosphere of the national Polish at Euro 2020? What went wrong? Why didn't he play a minute? How does Paulo Sousa rate? Is he happy with his performances so far in the national Polish? Does it have any interesting transfer offers? These and other questions were answered in a longer interview on the air by Barnsley footballer and national Polish, Michal Helik. We invite you to a text recording of this conversation.

I remember talking when you came to Barnsley and i didn't even ask you about the plans for the national team Polish. And how it all went...

A wacky season, but very successful, albeit with a bitter finish, because we lost the Premier League play-outs to Barnsley and did not come out of the group at Euro 2020.

Have you developed a lot during this time?
Very, very, without two sentences. I still have a lot to improve on. The level in the Championship is high. There are plenty of teams teetering on the border of the Premier League. Actually, there are some such big and so good teams here that with peace of mind, right now and in these conditions, they could compete in the elite. The rest also do not give a win. Barnsley was supposed to fight for a living, but we came to the barracks. I like this league. There are a lot of matches, not too many training, everything gathered and included in the match play. Every player prefers to play rather than train.

Was there a big jump between Poland and England?
There are a lot of players in the Championship on loan from the Premier League who really see the quality. The level is definitely higher than in the Premier League, but I also do not think that the Polish elite was very weak. I found it nice, but it's the previous season, I erase it from memory. After a long vacation, I start preparing for the new campaign.

Did you have weaker physical moments? There were a lot of those matches.
There were crazy moments, crazy series. The guys in the locker room told me that last season was already an ewenement, because everything was pushed, everything was squeezed by a pandemic. I played more matches than I had full-time workouts. This has multiplied. We drove at such intensity that, like me, I was going to the team, the guys during the representative break got up to six days off. I just couldn't rest. I worked hard. There was no tempering, but on the contrary, a higher turnover to show up.

You didn't play a minute at the Euro, but you were in the frame, you saw a lot. After falling off, did you think you could do more, get out of the group?
There remains a huge understateness, anger. We all expected more. We as players are most disappointed with how it all went. I didn't play a single minute, but I felt part of this team. I was ready all the time, I tried to give my best in training.

    What failed?
It's not easy for me to talk about it because I haven't played. I was part of the team, I take responsibility for the defeat, but I didn't play in matches, so I'm not going to dwell on what just didn't play.

Helik didn't play, so it didn't work out!
No, no, no. I'm not going to say that. Coach Sousa chose the best. I did everything I could to win my place in the squad. All the time I believed in my willingness to perform, but it didn't work out, I didn't play.

Did you believe in kamil Glik's bite? You started the match against Hungary in the first team.
I still believe that I can compete with Kamil Glik for a position. It is known that if there is a direct rivalry, it always feels like a chance. He's a great leader, a super man. I respect him, I look at him as much as I can. Competing with him is a pleasure.

You played three matches in the squad – Hungary, England, Russia. Are you happy with them?
A big deal, a childhood dream come true. It could have been better, but that's the ball, it's a game of mistakes. Tragically it wasn't. It's not entirely fair to judge someone through the prism of one or two mishaps.

It's not easy to outsmart raheem Sterling like that. You found out for yourself.
Exactly, exactly. Looks for a contact. Non-stop, all the time. I wanted to block the centering, and he put his feet down to find contact. He succeeded.

In the club you also play a setting with three defensemen. Are these systems similar?
In Barnsley I mostly played in the middle of three 10 thumpers, in the frame, against England, I played on the half-right stopwatch. It's definitely something else, the behaviour in pressing or defending is different, it's not the same as at the club, we have a different style than we want to play for the national team, even if the setting is similar. Representative football is also different from the ball in the Championship. It's a global level. The best players from all over the world.

Why was it so easy for the national team to lose goals at the Euro?
    I wasn't on the pitch, I didn't judge.

    Cont...

Poland does not have 100 thummers who know how to bring the ball out well?
I don't think so. We have stopwatches that find themselves in a system with three at the back.

    And shuttles?
Same. It was a new idea, the beginning of change. I was in this frame for the first time. New staff, big changes. The national team Polish never played such a setting in the long run. There used to be some trials, but it's sporadic, singular. We can't cross those tries after a few games now.

Where do you see the greatest reserves?
The story of bringing out the ball is now fashionable. But if you're playing in the middle of a defense in a system with a back three, it's hard to take any bigger risks. It is taken from the side zones of the pitch. There are many elements to improve. I try to grow all the time. I'm not going to focus on one thing. At Barnsley, I was primarily drawn to playing accurate long balls in the side sectors. That was the premise. Then to shorten the playing field. We played with very aggressive pressing. Now there's a new coach, we'll see what it looks like.

Should Paulo Sousa stay with the national Polish?
As a player of the national Polish I am not the last player to give such opinions.

But you know, there was a debate about whether he should stay.
It came to me. I believe coach Paulo Sousa should stay. He's a very good coach. You can see his workshop after individual interviews, after check-ins. I worked very well with him. He came to me with a message, I can't attach myself to anything, I wouldn't even laugh.

He probably had a little too little time.
Over time, it will all look even better. It's a new system for this team, even if it hasn't changed too much since working with coach Buzzer. Sure, there are new faces, but key representatives have known each other for years, and still need to work out some automatisms.

    What makes coach Sousa different?
He has a clear plan and vision for his football. It is communicative. He can convey that. We worked hard under his eye. Many asked me what my post-season activities look like in the national team with fifty games to their credit. They thought I had a looser period, and there was no apology, we had to prepare well.

Did you feel from the bench that Sweden and Slovakia were better teams?
They are certainly very good, but not better than Polish. The understateness was huge.

What was the atmosphere in the team during the Euro?
The atmosphere was really good. It is known that the results, necessarily, have worsened it, but we have a lot of experienced leaders who merge this team and form a cool collective around it. New faces have blended in nicely. I caught good contact with the guys. I will remember the team from this tournament in the superlatives themselves, but of course the positive aspects of being the first time in a big tournament obscure my unsatisfactory results.

In training, have you probably competed against Robert Lewandowski?
Mega experience. Often, if I was in the second team, I could compete directly with the Left. Enter with him in direct duels. I could feel the striker from the world top playing. I pulled a lot out of it, saw a lot. I hope this will result.

Got clips for analysis after the Euro?
For now, there is a great understateness in the air after losing the party. Clips from your game did not get ...

It's more about contact on the coach-coach line.
No, no, I've only been in contact with the players for now. I didn't talk to Coach Sousa, there was a holiday time. After a long, hard season and such a tournament, everyone needed some rest.

Are there any offers already? Do you sometimes think about a transfer to an even stronger club?
There's a lot going on, I know so much, but I leave everything to the agent, because I've never been a player who interferes with it or who would have sat in it. I want to have a clean head, I want to focus on work. Nothing will give me an hearing about potential interests. I talk when there is a specific, when it is really close. I'm focused on playing another season at the level of the previous one. Or even better.

A lot has changed for you in Barnsley. It won't be easy.
That's true. Departed coach Valerien Ismael and took several staff members and captain Alex Mowatt with him to the WBA. There have also been changes in the position of sporting director or club secretary. Alex was a fantastic figure merging the locker room. You yourself may have found out about it one day when, for a joke, he answered a phone call from me and started talking in English.

    I didn't understand too much.
I've been here ten months now and I'll probably never get that touch. He scored a lot of goals, gave the assists he needed and was well treated by the club.

    What does that mean?
Just a few weeks before the end of the season, it was known that he would not extend his contract. They didn't get along. Despite this, he gave his best until the last game, the coach normally exhibited him, the fans did not accuse him of anything. This is a nice example of how you can part with a character that is important to the club in a normal and civilized way.

You also had one of america's greatest talents, Daryl Dike.
The boar is amazing, the stature resembles Romelu Lukaku. A few times I came with corks on my legs in training, it was not a pleasant feeling (laughter). For his rivals, however, he was also a curse, scoring a lot of goals. Unfortunately, he was only on loan to us, now he's back in MLS and I've seen him keep shooting. He's on the papers for big games and I'm curious to see how his career goes on. Now he's in Orlando and certainly important decisions ahead of him.

Did you cheer for England in the final?
Not exactly. After we dropped out, It was hard for me to cheer on anyone. There was a lot of anger in the middle and insuociety, although I know it's closer to the events in England, because I live here.

    How do you live?
Very good, although it is calmer than in Krakow. That's what I probably needed, because you can lead a completely different lifestyle. We certainly missed the fans last season. When they got back to the end of the season, it was an amazing feeling. One boy once approached me in the city and asked for an autograph. I saw that his eyes were shining, and I only play in the Championship. I don't know how, but people got to know me sometimes even when I was in a mask. It shows that the fans here live the ball amazingly and I'm happy with where I am.

Can't say there's much in there that makes me think he's on his way, beyond the usual interest levels shown to better players.

Bizarrely not. Though he's been removed as a Director. And obviously we've not heard from him with Conway instead being the mouthpiece again. So it's clear he's gone. Whats going on behind the scenes, we can only speculate.

Yes that was a nice touch and shows his humility. Hope he never gets too big for his boots, like some top players do. I don't think he will. Seems a very well grounded, decent human being.
