This article in The Star shows that he has some class:- He said: “[Villa] is just a massive club and it was a chance I could not turn down. Fulham and Sheffield Wednesday were in for me, I didn’t want to join Wednesday as I felt that would have been a kick in the teeth to Barnsley, but I felt settled living further north.
Can't say I noticed him much in either leg. Which probably supports the fact he was poor. However, saw him play a few times for villa in the prem that same season and didn't look out of place. And Dean Smith was actually reluctant to let him go out on loan. Would be a good signing for any championship team.
This is like the Ashley Ward situation when we had a chance to resign a popular player but it never happened. If he could be tempted with a decent contract I reckon he’d be happy to return where he is still revered. It might not work out but I’d love to see him in our midfield again
Whatever Mowatt turned down as the most we have ever offered someone we could offer him but it might not be enough for him either.
I think he’s be perfect as a replacement for Mowatt, he played in both legs of the play offs in games we never looked likely to win so he can’t have been that bad eh? No way we can afford his wages given the number of teams prepared to outspend us with money they don’t have.
he never tried a yard in those 2 legs, best when he booted it out for a corner in injury time ,once a red
Nobody in the current climate and with his age will be willing to match his current wages. If he gets 30k a week at his next club his agent is a genius.
Not sure that our owners are in touch with our recent past to know whay he meant to us anyway. Besides, we're run as a business now not a football club.
I wouldn’t mind him in 5 years time as our shooting and passing coach. He doesn’t have to do owt else, just teach all our left footed players to bang it in top bins from 30 yards
Would love to see him back but don’t think he’d fit our remit and doubt we could afford him. Really hope he goes to a decent club and not a rival and also hope he comes back to us in the future in some capacity. He will always be one of my favourites.
