This is my gut feeling too, it’s certainly dragging on, I think we would be better off looking at other targets.
Obbi has the potential to be a nuisance like Dike was last season, this season but if it's not sorted out by close of play Tuesday move on to the next name of the list before it's too late.
I’m told the delay isn’t a result of the player or club. He wants to come now and has completed his medical. Barnsley have done everything ourside too. Due to the new brexit rules the player must total a certain number of points awarded for age, international caps and appearances in major leagues. Obbi Ourlare has fallen 3 points short due to his lack of game time at his current club. So we have contested it with the EFL. I understand they have allowed the transfer so it will be done early next week.
Wikipedia says he plays for us, and no sign of 'humourous' editing either. 58 appearances aged 25 doesn't inspire me but with our recent recruitment policy results I'll reserve further judgement. Obbi Oularé https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obbi_Oularé?wprov=sfla1
He's played a few more than that (his Wikipedia stats don't include his time at Standard), although admittedly not a lot more. A very similar history to Vaz Te. I'm trusting the money ball model of identifying undervalued talent. But by the sounds of it, we're only paying for him if he does well anyway, so I can't see it being an expensive risk.
Well we can cross this off the incoming list. It's dragged on too long even with any appeals etc. Time to move on.
If the lad does sign, he'll immediately become my favourite player. Simply due to all the mud slinging in his direction before he's even pulled on the shirt. It was the same for me when we brought in Chris O'Grady & Jason Scotland, along with comments from the intelligentsia like "If he's not good enough for Wednesday/Ipswich, he's not good enough for us". You'd think folk would've learned their lesson, after similar comments were made about Callum Brittain & Carlton Morris last season, but apparently not.
Reverse psychology. If I say they're rubbish they prove me wrong. Oulare should be playing for Hull City .
Morris signed for us not long after having a full year out and his career stats of one in 7 in the lower leagues weren’t exactly inspiring on paper. Turned out alright though. As a great man once said you gotta believe
Judging somebody on goals and appearances is a bit pointless. He scored two goals in twelve league games last season, if you look at it that way. In truth he only played 479 minutes, roughly just over fives games worth of minutes.
Down the years we've had players nobody rated that did extremely well, and some that struggled. We've had some well known players who were eagerly welcomed flop. And some that have done well. Some young signings have broken through and made their name with us. Others have vanished without trace. Some signings from overseas haven't done too well and have returned to their homelands, others have gained hero status. The simple truth is we have no idea how well a player linked with us will actually do. We don't know how they'll fit in with the coaches plans, if he'll settle in at the club and how motivated they will be. We can of course speculate, but history would suggest we should at least wait and see them sign for us, and ideally play before we write them off as being a disastrous acquisition.
