The only person I know on the clinically vulnerable list who got a letter advising them to shield is me - so let me give you my perspective as someone who takes hardcore immune suppressant drugs intravenously every 6 weeks for a serious condition, not one with a 99.9% survival rate in all but the oldest and fattest. I don’t expect children to be denied access to education because of my condition. I don’t expect women to be stuck in a situation of domestic violence during some sort of lockdown because of my condition. I don’t expect young, healthy people to be coerced into medical treatment they don’t want or need because it might make me somehow safer by an infinitesimally small fraction. I don’t expect anyone to in anyway have to modify anything they do to accommodate me. Because I’m not an utterly selfish twàt. When you have a proper illness it makes you appreciate that life truly is short. Those with the benefit of youth and health need to be allowed to enjoy it while they can. I’ll guarantee you the preaching, selfish old ***** on this thread asking all the young people to do this, that and the other for the good of wider society did fück all for that wider society when they were in their 20s and out enjoying themselves. Some of them are so selfish they want children - some of whom will die or suffer serious side effects as a result - to be vaccinated - not because those children are in any danger of serious illness themselves - but just to make them feel safer. And these people have the nerve, the absolute fücking brass neck, to believe they have the moral high ground. It actually beggars belief. Young people have given 18 months of the best part of their lives while this Tory government have pandered to the doomed lockdown policies of SAGE, and we’ve still had an appalling death record. It’s about time we treated these young people with the thanks and respect they deserve for observing these draconian rules for so long.
Remember that you're replying to the person who says it's the parents fault if young children become traumatised by the impact covid restrictions have had on their life
All seem valid reasons and I agree that individuals should be exempt on the basis of physical or mental health reasons. Which, I believe all your examples fit under. It would be interesting to see what proportion of individuals who choose not to wear masks cite these reasons. From anecdotal evidence, I would guess at it not being a significant number. From a quick search this morning I haven't found evidence either way. Interestingly, there are some studies which also suggest "that face mask restrictions may not only protect against the COVID-19 but also increase the level of perceived self-protection as well as the level of social solidarity and thereby improve mental health wellbeing." Which I found interesting. The impact of mask wearing on social distancing is also an interesting point, however, I would argue that further education is therefore warranted on the issue as opposed to simply suggesting that mask wearing should be stopped because it reduces social distancing.
You are 100% on the money. What you see with this rage that is being expressed it isnt true anger its pent up fear manifesting its self looking for a way out. Just look at the demographics that are venting in this thread. Male Pale and Stale. The type that'll follow a young mother around a supermarket berating her for not wearing a mask then end up perplexed when they get a winder off her husband. What people in that age demographic keep forgetting the young people they are now calling "scum" for vaccine hesitancy keep forgetting is that those young people have spent the last 18 months having their lives put on hold to protect them. I cant recall any of them having a minute and saying Thanks kids. No. Its you must do more to protect me. Suggesting that people are frightened of the vaccine is laughable because they require further evidence to its short and long term side effects. Remember, the AZ got pulled for 20-40 year olds due to clotting risk something the developers are currently trying to remove. There's no longer term impact studies on pregnancies or fertility except "its safe". Could you imagine the pressures some young girls are facing right now about all this? But there are people who couldnt give a **** as long as they are safe. Currently, going through the Lords is an Act to mandate vaccinations on care home workers with NO IMPACT ASSESSMENT undertaken. this is a requirement under parliamentary guidelines. There has been no scrutiny. This will have a massive impact on an already stretched workforce. I trust those who who support mandatory vaccination in this area are willing to step up and help out. Thankfully, the French have shown Macron how happy they are. Its a crying shame that far too many people are now conditioned not to see people as fellow human beings but sources of infection and transmission of Coronavirus. we dont do that with any other virus or ailment. What makes Covid so special other than the 18 months of mental conditioning Susan Michie and her cohorts have placed upon this countries population. Old Steve with COPD and lungs made of rice paper knows he is ill. He is of sound mind and has assessed the situation accordingly and is having a few pints in the sun with his mates while he still can. He doesnt want need or expect anything from anyone because he isnt some kind of narcissistic ****. Same with the vast majority of people classed as vulnerable.
I think there are many people making valid points about all this on here. We all look at things from slightly different viewpoints and personal circumstances though. I think too many people tend to get wound up and angry when they think other people aren't listening or have different views. Best thing is to read/listen and do what you think is the right thing to do. For me I will be wearing a mask for some time to come in what I consider 'dodgy' areas as I think its best for everyone if I do. The rest of the time I'll try and behave in as normal a way as I can. I'm no angel but we are living with covid now, the rates are going up again and some people aren't vaccinated so the small personal decision I have made is to wear my mask. I just think its a sensible thing for me to do which is easy enough and doesn't unduly upset me.
Boris Johnson was told to self isolate 3 days ago in 10 Downing Street, today he has appeared virtually from his country home Chequers. Ergo he has broken the law as he should have remained where he was and not traveled 43 miles, no doubt in a chauffeur driven limo along with an advisor or two.... One rule for us.....
I'm still wearing a mask but under the new regulations I'm afforded a bit of leeway. One example being on a hot day. I can stand on a station platform well away from other commuters without my mask on. As soon as I get off the bus or train I now take it off where as before I wore it until off the premises.
According to Zoe infections in Wakefield have started falling as fast as they went up. Similar to what happened in India-52 day cycle. We’re on around 50 days. Infections down over 600 in a week to 2k so like 1/5 down in 7 days.
I Guarantee as winter pressures increase there will be a further lockdown. Its the belief in Respiratory departments in England that it will happen. The NHS is dreading the winter as people will act irresponsibly after the Government's indecision.
You cant go blaming Thatcher for everything, it doesn't and shouldn't take a politician to tell any decent person how to be respectful and considerate. Good parenting who leading by example and having respect for yourself , your elders and others around you is a good starting place. Relying on Maggie to teach you how to give up your bus seat for the old or pregnant lady ... wow
It doesn't help when we have the leaders we have though to instil a message. Gareth Southgate is a leader, Johnson is a public schoolboy chancer who jumped on the Brexit bandwagon.
And The Times reports tonight that Labour will oppose the Government's plans for vaccine passports. I don't personally see this as good news. An onerous continuing testing regime is probably the price of not having certificated vaccine status as the way forward. I've had my jabs, but haven't had a Covid test and never will.
It's a good example of Starmer being stuck between a rock and a hard place though. If he doesn't contradict the government he's seen as condoning them/not being an active opposition. Horrific tribal situation between the so called left and right at the minute.
