I reckon Stanley Knives has left Liverpool hence they've been stripped of UNESCO status. If Stanley returns to Liverpool then I assume they'll get the status back. That's my interpretation and I'm sticking to it cause it's proper true
Development of King's Dock which is turning waste ground into something useful - still an amazing place to live with or without Heritage Status
Must admit I think it’s a bit petty renovate a derelict area and lose heritage status seems a bit strange it’s not like they pulled down the Liver building.
It is weird - they have built far worse near the Liver building to be fair- big hideous glass building that spoils the view from Albert Dock. The new development includes the new Everton Stadium - breathe a lot of life into a quiet but of town
I liked it when Liverpool was a city of culture. They still nicked my wheels, but they left my car on four stacks of encyclopaedias.
They shouldn't be surprised, they have built a number of ugly "modern" glass and steel structures right by the beautiful old Liver building and the equally elegant Cunard building. I really don't know where these architects get their ideas from, must be on drugs I reckon. On a recent visit to Newcastle we walked onto the High Level bridge to get a good view of the Tyne Bridge, only to have the view ruined by something known locally as "the slug". Horrible thing.
At the end of the day, being listed as UNESCO doesn’t bring tourists in. The Beatles and footy brings them, it’s an easy decision to me- Liverpool was left to rot like a lot of places which stood up to thatcher and more power to them for developing the **** out of it to bring in money and jobs.
Economy is fastest growing one outside of London. Liverpool one, Albert Docks, Old Cains Brewery site (Baltic Market) all bring in the punters - fantastic vibe here now - not the place I moved to back in the late 80's. Place that always brings out the tired stereotypes but has a lot going for it. Will defend the place as much as I will Barnsley
According to the article in the Guardian, UNESCO warned Liverpool in 2012, so they must have been doing something back then which they didn't like. I didn't know till the other day that Everton were planning a new ground, what's the problem with Goodison Park? https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2021/jul/21/liverpool-unesco-world-heritage-status-stripped By the way, my partner and I went to Liverpool for a few days in early June and we loved it, even though the road behind the Liver building was a huge building site.
I wonder is UNESCO have ever visited Bramley Moor Dock ? I doubt many people have. There is **** all of herritage there , as with a lot of the dock Hitler bombed the **** out of it. The dock area itself is derelict and deserted. People are just trying to improve the city...in my book, UNESCO , is a worthless quango that likes the sound of its name, but in reality, knows nothing about history, heritage and preservation.
Historic England and the Victorian Society both criticised the plans for filling in the dock. Let's not conflate finding a new use for something with preservation. Preservation is certainly not sticking some glass and metal on something and turning it into a sports venue. It was an inevitable conclusion to lose UNESCO status.
i believe that the everton club shop is in the city centre with a post code of liverpool 1 so some bright evertonian named the shop everton 2 so all post to the shop goes with the address everton 2, liverpool 1
It’s not done based on the post code (though it is L1), it’s in the city centre shopping mall which is called Liverpool One (presumably named from the post code)- so the shop’s address is Everton Two Liverpool One. Quite witty.
