Could he be the experienced midfielder to replace Alex. He's 2 years older, experienced playing in 3 different countries plus he was brought in as a central midfielder but was always played out wide. Just a question for debate that's all.
It's a no from me, I don't think he's good enough unfortunately. Depending on who comes in we may need him tho.
Looked lost last time under struber. He played in a midfield 3 with hardly any width so to say out wide is a exaggeration. I'll give him a 2nd chance if the manager thinks but I'm not holding much hope. And he minght be two years older than mowatt but experience is in game time alex has played over 200 games in the championship one of the best leagues in Europe be shocked if ritzmaier ever plays half of that in the championship.
I think he's in the same boat as Mowatt was when he first came to the club. He signed as a central midfielder. Had a shocking start and was shoe horned in out wide looking crap in the process. After going out on loan he might blossom back in his favoured position.
When he was supposed to be playing more central he'd go and stand on the touchline and a) get in the way of the full back and b) leave mowatt on his own in the middle of the park. He may look better this time around and I will give him another shot but not holding my breath.
He was signed to play the left of Struber's diamond. A position Struber had earmarked as one we were weak in, despite Mowatt being far more suited to that position than at the base. He only got shoe horned in out wide when we switched to that sliding back three/four tactic which meant he was much closer to the touchline and almost a wing back.
From my point of view, he starts with a clean slate (as does every player) this campaign under the new Head Coach.
Thing is with mowatt i always knew there was a player there, he had played nearly 120 championship games when he signed for us could take set plays, play a pass, tackle etc just needed a manager to play him in his proper position and get the best out of him. Hecky played him on the wing in a 5 man midfield away 1st game at Bristol then went out on loan stendel worked with him and got the best out of him. With ritzmaier he wasn't always played out wide and even when he was in the diamond we never played with much width, didn't have a great shot on him, couldn't tackle, passing was average often to the opposition like when he set Chelsea up for their 1st when they hammered us in the cup. Just looked like a mate of the managers to me.
I have come round to this way of thinking now. He was hugely disappointing before but he's our player, it's a new season, maybe he'll surprise us! Come on Ritzy lad
We've got Callum Styles and someone we paid close to a million quid for. We're hardly scraping the bottom of the barrel yet
The million quid man that has hardly kicked a ball. I'd like to see Styles stay on the left for the minute because it's extra pressure on the lad. Once again I bow to your superior tactical knowledge.
My career in football ended at 19 in Mustang Sally's when I realised I couldn't keep getting up to coach U7's football on a Sunday morning. No superior knowledge here! Just think we're being too quick to write off players who could step up and have a big season for us. Doesn't mean we don't need to sign another body in the middle, but we're not as limited as some suggest. I think Styles is like Gazza in the middle of the pitch with a much bigger contribution and impact on games.
I haven't been in there since 2008. The night I got back from Cup Semi. Tried hard to drown my sorrow but failed.
