    I’ve built myself a little man cave and I’m after a proper beer pump, I’m sure I’ve read on here that a few others have done same, can anyone point me in direction of anyone who does home bar set ups?

    Just check on eBay. Or keep an eye out for one of the 10,000 venues that hasn’t reopened after Covid and pop your head in.

    Brother in law had a proper pump with kegs in his but it was too much of a ballache to keep cleaning the lines etc so he got rid and got a blade which he says is much better.

    It’s so simple to do yourself. Iv got full setup in my Bar and it’s not hard believe me. I got mine before the world ended so I got a reasonable deal but prices have shot through the roof with every one jumping on the home Bar bandwagon.

    Like another poster said there will be quite a lot out there with pubs closing but the larger pub systems will be too big. My cooler has 2 lines so I can have 2 barrels of what ever I want connected. As long as the 2 different barrels use the same gas mixture.

    Smallest keg you can get is 20L which is 35.8 pints I think from memory. That keg needs to be drank in a week. Your lines need cleaning once a week as well, so if you have more than one beer line you’ve got to be knocking back 70 pints a week once connected otherwise the quality drops.

    That 20L size isn’t readily available most times either so you’re looking at 30L which is 52.8 pints.

    That’s on keg. On cask you’ve got a lot more tech and expertise needed and you’ve got to drink all 72 pints from a firkin in three days and keep the beer under 12 degrees at all times.

    Went to a bbq other week where they had a bia moretti pump set up , he’d paid 500£ for pump and was getting kegs at 30£ for 14 pints delivered

    i have a blade, no maintenance holds about 14 pints and there’s a reasonable choice of kegs.

    This is an absolute myth that you have to drink it that quick. Can have 88 pint lager keg on for over a month. Cider even longer. Most home bars use mixed gas and turn it off when not in use

    Not a myth at all. Quality deteriorates from the minute you broach a keg, regardless of whether you turn the gas on and off.

    There’s lab tests that prove this with all the top breweries in the world. You might still find it drinkable and enjoy it, but have to side by side with a fresh one and you’ll notice the difference.

    It’s just whether you’re that bothered. If you’re a pub and you’re not doing a keg a week of every beer, you’ve either got too many different beers on or the wrong beers on.

    I'd also add that if you're doing anything on the hoppy side with mixed gas (rather than pure CO2) you can take that week down to a couple of days.

    The only thing I'd consider for a home bar would be the small systems outlined above, or for more adventurous beers something like this using keykegs only. Because the beer is sealed in its bag and the gas never touches it'll last a lot longer, and the Lindr machines come with an air compressor so you don't even need a gas cylinder.

    Holds about 4 pints before a change of torp is needed, no lines - nothing to clean. If you want something that holds a little more then look at perfectdraft.
