Or peppers ? Can add owt really first tried it in Bulgaria many years ago have it regular now especially summertime.
Gherkins? Or things you only found out about late in life? The latter has possibilities, not sure about the gherkins.
Love cucumber , thinly sliced , goes well in a sandwich with cheese, meat etc & also must be included in any salad dish , very refreshing .
Essential for: 1 Greek salads...tomato, cucumber (chunks) , olives, lemon juice, red peppers sliced, oregano thyme, garlic, olive oil, feta cheese 2 Cucumber sliced very thin in sandwiches on soft white bread (crusts removed)... perfect on a hot summers day. Good with cheese too. 3 Scaring the cat. (put one down on the floor behind it and near to it while it is not looking and it jumps a mile when it turns round and sees it)
In answer to the question about cooking it - we have a Korean restaurant nearby which does a very spicy pork and coriander dish (hot) which includes cucumber. I reckon they must just chuck it in at the end to warm it through, as otherwise it would disintegrate into a mush. But, terrible as it sounds, it's actually absolutely superb.
This fresh knowledge is a game-changer for me! Love a gherkin (but previously didnt particularly appreciate cucumbers)
Thanks for this Peachy, we needed a change in tack from recent threads. I cooked it once, on a pizza, in food tech. It was disgusting, the pale gloopy liquid discharged across the tomato sauce like wild, diseased tributaries. To this day I don't know what I was thinking.. I love pizza and consider my exploits in food tech as a spotty teen a cardinal sin.
