had a walk around town at lunch.

Get the kids to help with the cooking?
As a 10 year old, I used to peel the spuds and mix the Yorkshire puds for my mam, I loved it. My kids are all excellent cooks and eat healthily now as a result of doing the same when they were little.

But tastes lots better if you cook it for a couple of hrs ;)

Which just means (like I’m about to) it makes more sense to cook meals like that the day before, and then they’re even more tasty for being left 24hrs.

But despite a (mostly) healthy diet, I’m tied to a desk 8+ hrs a day and whilst I know I ought to counter that by going out for a walk, having half a bottle of wine with dinner is more appealing to unwind.

I was fairly healthy into my mid 30’s but the more sedentary my works got, the more I’ve drunk to relax.

    This^
Our kitchen was tiny growing up (and before we extended it was just as small here), but as a kid I helped and learned, and I passed that on to my kids (so much that the stepson spent time working as a chef).

You don’t need a big kitchen, in fact we still sit in the living room on Christmas Eve prepping veg in front of the telly. And if we had to do that every day for the sake of space, we would.

Great idea. Too many fat kids around these days because they are obsessed with technology so sit on their backsides watching a tablet for hours on end. Totally different to generations gone by where we went outside for hours on end playing Football, climbing trees, riding bikes etc to stay active.

it does mate. Loads of sense in batch cooking too for the same reasons (taste, economy, time)

We didn’t do it to stay active though did we?
We did it because it was the best entertainment we could get.

Too many kids nowadays don’t get the freedom, because their parents feel compelled to ‘look after’ them, that outside isn’t safe, that they’ll get into trouble etc etc.

I got up to stuff my kids never had the opportunity to, and they had more freedom than many of their peers.

    Have to agree.

I am not a vegetarian, but cut out all meat when I was surviving on UC. I made some great meals I got the recipes for free off the internet.

I realise not everyone would do this. Processed foods are easy, but they are scary when you examine the ingredients.

    No need to apologise.

Was not a time of my life I'd like to return to, but I learned some stuff about surviving off f-all. That included selling my CD collection & doing a job I could have never envisaged doing (IT recruitment & marketing), which I quite enjoyed for a bit, but was always destined to go back to music. It is my life.

Yes, the other day I read about taking 5 year old kids to football training. WTF is that all about and what possible good can it do them?

It's not that formal, they play games and run about with a ball a bit.

I'll respectfully disagree, mainly because I can't be bothered to write a large list of the positives it does bring. And its a lot
