    Very good point

I went to school with someone who ended up a regular in the Conference. He was ridiculously good yet 'only' ever ended as high as the third tier.

It's easy for us to sit here and say this player is crap, but to end up with any sort of professional contract takes serious ability

Only thing I can't forgive is a lack of effort and certainly no evidence that he's ever not given it his all - something that can't be said of others in the past with perhaps far more natural ability

Once heard an interview with Joey Barton (yes I know, he’s a *****) & there was one quote that’s always stuck with me & it was when he was getting abuse & described as ‘an average premier league player’ & he was making the point of how exceptional you have to be to be an average premier league player & it’s right.

Almost everyone at school wants to be a footballer. Thinking back to my form & I bet at least two thirds of us were football fans & it’s our national sport. To ever make it as a pro you’ve got to be incredible. Even your conference level are outstanding really.

I’ve played 5 & 7 a side with lads who’ve played for Shaw Lane, Athersley Rec, Worsbrough Bridge & Emley off the top of my head & even them lads are bloody good.

If George Miller came & had a kick about with any of us on here he’d make us look silly.

Although why he’s living in Thurnscoe is anyone’s guess

0.3% is 3 in a thousand. I would say that many don't make it as professionals never mind Championship players.

As a footnote to this thread where George Miller has been written off by all the BBS experts, I found it interesting that our new head coach has apparently not written him off & trusted him enough to bring him on against Man City & to be fair to the lad in my opinion did o.k

The highest level I played was District Premier League level in York and I was at the absolute maximum extent of my abilities. A couple of mates were phenomenal players who'd played for Harrogate Railway and Bradford PA and dropped down from semi pro. Just their touch and the way they'd kick the ball was different. I played centre half and would come off covered in mud, spent half my time doing last ditch tackles, but my mate alongside me was like Bobby Moore, strolled around, never broke sweat, never had to go to ground.

And on top of that Mark Ford sometimes played for us. He played for Leeds, Burnley and England Under 21s. His career fizzled out but playing for us in his mid30s it was like he was playing a completely different game. He'd sit in front of the back four and then whenever he fancied it he'd stroll forward and put it in the top corner. The gulf in class between me and those guys was ridiculous.
