Absolutely awful racer who shouldn't be anywhere near a top team. Except he does exactly what mercedes want, he underperforms in the car picking up regular points whilst putting absolutely no pressure on their prize asset, Lewis Hamilton. He's this generations Barrichello
Agree, but it made for a cracking race afterwards. Anybody backing that top 3 with any gusto should be rightly on the verge of enjoying retirement, and I bet Mercedes are still around the back of Alonsos’ car with a tape measure
No but it helps when you've got by far the best car out there. Helps you recover from your massive balls up
Made for a thrilling race. This season Bottas just looks like his head as gone, of course he's no match for Hamilton or Verstappen but I think the pressure of knowing his time may be up is making he erratic and leading to mistakes which we didn't used to see as often from him.
Good race that, enjoyed it. If Bottas stays at Merc next year it's criminal. Fair play to Lewis, did a great job today. He annoyed me a bit with his whining behind Alonso, especially the comment about Alonso's defence being dangerous at that speed. But let's not get into that... he actually looked ill on the podium, he was holding onto the wall at one bit and breathing heavily. Looked to be having a bit of a panic attack. Hopefully he's just a bit dehydrated and is okay. As we know I'm not his biggest fan but don't wish ill on him. Fernando though... so good to have him back in F1. A classy display.
Maybe so but the debate about Hamilton only being an unbelievable driver has been done to death he’s in he fastest car because he’s the best although this season he isn’t in the fastest car.. so if I get it right you’re suggesting that they might as well get shot of Hamilton and see what you’re doing for the Belgian Grand Prix?
I'd suggest the team who created and maintain the car did the hard work to give Hamilton a car so fast he could cut through the field like that. The only other car left on track that could match him usually was held together with duct tape.
You seem to be looking for a argument nobody is having. @SuperTyke was literally quoting bono. Hamilton is in that car because he is one of the best drivers in the history of F1. The Mercedes team through a combination of finances and brilliant work have for the best part of a decade created the best car on the grid. Hamilton drove superbly following the team balls up and was only denied a shot at victory by another of the drivers who is even at 40 still on his level. Only the Mercedes and a non damaged red bull would have been capable of the sort of recovery drive regardless of driver. That's not a slight on anyone it's just a fact of F1. Is Bottas the 4th best driver on the grid? I don't believe so but the car is dragging him to that standing. Similarly a great driver like Hamilton can can pull a car slightly higher than its capable of.
vettel disqualified for not having enough fuel in his car. Aston Martin say there is enough in there but for some reason the FIA is unable to extract it from the car. Oh well they couldn't get him for standing up for gay rights but they've made sure to get him for something
As much as I agree about the gay rights thing.. rules are rules unfortunately I’m gutted to I love vettel
I'm gutted. Missed start of Love Island. By the way who won the Hungarian Grand Prix? Uncle Bulgaria.
It's been a fascinating season so far. Shame we didn't get to see Lewis and Max go head-to-head again, and whilst I'm a huge Lewis fan, I was actually pleased he stayed out and ended up at the back of the field because I fully expected him to drive through them all regardless, and once again prove how great he is. And, he would have done, but for the brilliant defensive drive of Alonso. He kept putting that Alpine in all the right places, and even nudged into Hamilton at one point. Again, I love Lewis but it's hilarious when he moans in those instances when he's as aggressive as he is himself quite often. But eventually Fernando made a mistake and to understand the quality of his work for those laps holding Lewis at bay, you only needed to see just how simple Hamilton made it look in getting past Sainz in the Ferrari. Another lap and he'd have probably won that race. Alonso won that race for Esteban. Great to see Max with his bottom lip out again too. And it all adds to the drama. Shame for Vettel who looks reborn since leaving Ferrari. But I remember Hamilton getting a DQ for the same thing some years ago now. Harsh, but them's the rules. Wish there wasn't a three-week break though!
