Well, thats not the news I was hoping for....

I don't tend to like starting threads, and certainly not things that are personal. But in this case I just feel I need to.

I mentioned a while ago that my wife was taking part in a study on covid vaccine response for those on certain mixes of drugs that affect the auto immune system.

The results are just being reported on and the news isn't good. Her level of antibodies against covid are zero. The initial thoughts from original studies was that it may be 3-4%.

The thing neither of us were expecting was that its also reported on t cells. It seems my wife has bugger all t cells either (which made up approximately 20% of the study group that had received 2 jabs).

I'm really not sure how to process that information.

Sorry to hear that. I'm presuming there will be thousands more in the same boat. Thinking they're immune because of both jabs when in fact the vaccine hasn't worked for them. Maybe bring back the anti body test for people after they have had their second dose?

Sorry to hear that must be devastating. I definitely think there should be the offer of anti body testing post jab so people are aware of where they stand.

 

I've not seen the study first hand, she just dropped the bombshell on me as I went downstairs to make a cuppa and the podcast was playing in the background.

Pfizer seems to do worst (typical!) though some people seem to have ok levels of immunity depending on which drug regime they are on with antibody levels up in the 30-40% range.

Jesus Christ, that is bloody awful. So sorry to hear that.

 

The drugs she has to take are purposefully to suppress her immune system, so if she gets anything, she generally has it for way way longer than anyone else. She's young and otherwise healthy.

Only previous time it's been an issue in the last 7-8 years since she started on this regime was general guidance to avoid any country that has yellow fever.

 

My wife has had the same response to a similar trial (maybe same one). They did say there are many false positives and false negatives, so we’ve taken it with a pinch of salt. It does make you wonder how accurate these tests are and whether they are of any use at all. It would be useful to get another type of test to tell whether she does have any protection or not.

 

This was a specific study done out of Hammersmith for those on immuno suppressing drugs (she went the day England played Scotland, so relatively recent). Its been long trailed through previous studies (I think Exeter did one) that some of the immuno suppressing drugs aggressively kill covid antibodies.

 

That’s bloody awful.

 

Who could have predicted that rushed vaccine production coupled with minimal clinical trials would result in these dubious outcomes?

 

So there could be hope that an alternative vaccine would give a better outcome?
