2 more golds (Total 22. 7 less than 2012) But Medal tally equal to 2012. (65) Great performances. They did us proud.
I remember after Beijing thinking about how well we had done, and how it was going to be difficult for us to match it in 2012. For us to have beaten those results in every games since is genuinely incredible. Smashing the Russians, Aussies, French, and Germans, it really is unreal compared to where we were in Atlanta. The National Lottery has done a massive amount of good.
Sands of time etc. so may be wrong but other than Redgrave and Pinsent I don’t remember any other GB gold medals from Atlanta 1996?
The more you get, the more you expect. Realistically France will do well next Olympics and so we may well not do as wellq again. To get medals ib such a wide range of sports is amazing.
That was our only gold then. This is the worst Athletics performance since and questions will be asked as to why the lottery money didn't produce one gold or why three of our best hopes all got injured at the worst possible time.
Yep, they have done well particularly when you consider that rowing is usually a banker sport for a bag full of medals and we only managed the one bronze this time
Italy have had some year with the Eurovision and European Championships double. Then they win the mens 100 metre gold and 4x100 metre gold, as well as others such as high jump and both the men and women's 20k walks.
With former r & b man Craig David assisting the team GB archery members. What with him being the bow selector. Repeated from a few weeks ago but i dont care.
Overall it was an outstanding games for GB. No country has ever equalled or bettered their medal tally after a home games and GB have done it twice. some sports are in transition such as rowing. Only two medals but about 5 4th place finishes. I’m 3 years time cycling may be in the same position without the Kennys. Athletics was disappointing and so were other sports like Judo and all the raquet sports. But athletics has been in a funk since the early 90s golden era. Jess Ennis and Mo Farah aside. I think we’ll be hard pushed to repeat this success in 3 years but I thought that this year. Very proud of our team. I love the Olympics and always feel a sense of emptiness when it’s over.
We actually got the same number of athletic medals as in 2012, it's just that none of them were Gold. 3 Silvers and 3 Bronze. Fine margins and all that. The Men's 4 x 100 Silver in particular.
Pretty much sums up my thoughts. Some transition of course but disappointing in the Rowing also Taekwondo and Athletics maybe through luck more than performances. Nailed it in the pool and boxing did well. For me the highlights were Kenny’s gold today and the BMX Gold. Both had an all or nothing approach. I enjoyed most events even the climbing but will be interesting to see how GB money distribution will now be made going forward.
Final medal table top 15 nations. Netherlands need a special mention. 7th in the table. Population 17.2 million
